Some of the responses are even worse than the OWS movement, since the protest is done by many marginalized aboriginal people. You can imagine some of the racialist comments people are coming up with online.
That's it - Indigenous, Aboriginals, or if you are being more specific, First Nation, Inuit, or Métis. Believe it or not, until last year, our government's term of choice was actually 'Indian'.

WAT.
It originated with the Indian Act that labelled all FNMI (First Nations, Metis, and Inuit) as Indians. The Act itself has been around since 1876 and determined who was FNMI and what should be done with FNMI peoples. Originally, the idea behind the Indian Act was to assimilate/"civilize" First Nation into European society.
It's been amended over the years to give FNMI people more rights and freedoms, but the name of the act (and therefore, the name of the people covered under the act) has not changed. I wasn't even aware that the government's term of choice had changed.
Well, I was actually just making an assumption because the government started referring to The Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development as Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada last year. However, Wiki says that Indian is still the legal term, I guess because they haven't changed all the legislation and policy to get rid of the term "Indian".
