NEWS: Is Smoking Rated R?

well I wouldn't consider it censorship...they aren't saying you CAN'T do it they just want to protect kids and the over reacting religious types. Since some people are very weak minded (apparently no one on this site) I think if it helps takes the glamour away from smoking why not put a pg17 rating or whatever it was they wanted. The only thing I would be worried about is its another way to make a movie a 'must see' and glorify smoking even more because its now a bad thing to do in movies too

I don't smoke, but it does worry me that some people want to "sanatize" films and make them artifically free of anything that they don't agree with.

Giving someone all the facts is far more effective at promoting healthy behavior than trying to hide the problems.

Besides, would you prevent kids from seeing films like It's a wonderful life? After all, even George Baily smokes in that film.
