So the last part was demeaning but really, like these kids know, or care!? Nope the parents in Compton are up in arms. Why? of course they need more positive role models like
Or maybe a Vet. Explanation: I'm all for the vets that have fought and died defending this country but to judge them on what they did or do as whether they are a positive role model for children please.

It does highlight the weird disconnect Americans have about sex. The likelihood that at least one of the parents complaining has had a Ms. Grey-assisted orgasm is for all intents and purposes 100%, but if she actually comes out of that little area and does anything, no matter how important or innocent, then we must shun her. The claims about it being inappropriate are just masks for that shunning, since I don't believe anyone credibly thinks that "Because a porn star read a suggestion-free book to me when I was six" is going to explain pretty much anything that happens to these kids.
Cocaine is a helluva drug. Also, that hotlinked image is about to give me a fucking seizure...
Seriously, WTF is with the random bizarre posts as of late? Why is providing a shred of context such a difficult concept to master? At least there was a link here, but the OP's comments leave much to be desired...
Anyhow, since I bothered to read the article (if only to avoid the nausea and threatening convulsions), and I'm not sure if I really care one way or another.
If I were on the school board, I'd probably have given Sasha Grey a pass, I'd be more than happy for her to volunteer her time to read to children whether she was currently a porn actress or not. No doubt some parents would freak out and I'd probably be sent home packing for green lighting her attempts to enrich the lives of children. Then again, I'd counter these parents by placing the shoe on the other foot, challenging them to donate their time as she had been willing to do. Alas, I'm not a Compton school board member and probably never will be. Either way, I'd have more tact then to try and draw some moralistic comparison between NWA and some retired pornstar while inexplicably posting war carnage (WTF are you thinking, METOO?)
What I find bizarre is that the opinion piece doesn't seem to be able to nail down whether she actually spoke at the event or not. If she actually falsified her involvement, then she's being pretty douchey, but if she did attend and the school district is denying it, then they're the ones being douchey. In any case, this story is borderline between, "yawn," and, "how is this news?"
I don't care if she read to my kids. Now if she tried to act for my kids, I'd be really pissed. That shit is offensive. Or am I the only one with thought "The Girlfriend Experience" sucked?

There are photos of her reading to the kids.
Aha, just saw one on Gawker. Good for her, even it it is for self-promotion, kids are benefiting so it's really a win-win.

I seriously cannot believe the amount of press this is getting.
I can. A hardcore porn star invited by a school to read to children is kind of a big deal. I get that almost no one on this board would care, but then again we don't really represent the majority of parents out there. If I'm a conservative parent, religious or whatever, I'm kind of pissed.

I really doubt this is a first. Porn stars have kids, and I would imagine some of them volunteer at their kids school, just like other parents.
And I know Sasha Grey isn't a parent to any of these kids. I'm just saying, I would not be surprised if other porn stars have been part of elementary classrooms.
I think the reason she wants to read to kids in the first place is so the future has a fucking chance.
Make the parents who are complaining volunteer to help children and see how minds change.
The attitudes of the general public about this are just to paradoxical.
"Shame on you. You worked in the sex industry."
"Shame on you. You're now trying to do something outside the sex industry. You're tainted now. We don't want you."
"Shame on you. You kept making porn."
Well, ffs. Maybe if sex workers weren't publicly humiliated for it every time they tried to do something else, more of them would leave the industry. Which is precisely what those shaming them want, isn't it? Or do they just want a scapegoat to hate?
As a side note, is anyone else looking at this thread's title and reminded of the Derrick Zoolander's Center for Kids Who Can't Read Good, And Want to Do Other Stuff Good Too?
