the idea that "if you are thinking for yourself and making your own decisions being a conservative is your choice" is ludicrous. It's a self-conflicting statement. By definition, if you're making your own choice, you can choose whatever philosophy suits you.

yes - THAT'S MY POINT!!!!

Who the hell is anyone to tell you that punks shouldn't be conservative (or indeed Liberal - it works both ways)?

What sort of person are you if you believe them and let opinion sway your choice of party?

Liberal, Conservative or whatever - the choice is YOURS, not some other dweeb's

Individuals and free thinkers will do their own brain work and come to their own decisions.

This is why "Rock the Vote" is so patronising. It treats people like idiots. I don't need Bruce Springsteen to tell me what to believe in. I have my own brain.

I wouldn't classify him as a punk ,but I have seen Jeff "Skunk" Baxter(Steely Dan,The Doobie Bros.) on C-Span speaking at conservative conferences about such punk themes(sarcasm noted) as nuclear throw weights ,defense-related issues, etc. A very impressive speaker.

Oddly the Ramones did a song called 'Bonzo Goes to Bitburg' which was a scathing criticism of Reagan. It was produced by Phil 'I didn't shoot nobody' Spector.

I couldn't read the complete thread. But it seems that conservativepunk kind of "manipulated" the statements, that is in the way they are taken out of context. Ben Weasel recently (well, kind of) addressed the topic in hisblog.

And about Joey, saying that he was a republican is laughable.

when every single person i know that is my age is a bleeding heart liberal, maybe the only way to rebel is to go conservative. maybe it's the new sociopolitical vanguard

newsflash

Republicans need to look hip for the elections so they go and dig up a dead rockstar to be their mascot.

Joey might or might not have been a republican but there is no guarantee he'd have been a bush supporter.

Let him rest

Looks as though he was buried in a political Pet Cemetary.

Actually, it was produced by Jean Beavoir, who is credited with co-writing the song with Joey and Dee Dee. Johnny was okay with the title for single release, but when it was decided that the track would appear on the Animal Boy album, he insisted that it be changed to "My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down."

Ah. Okay, yeah, I agree with you. It was, perhaps, not the clearest choice of words that threw me.

I think Ted Nugent's "Stranglehold" is one of the best rock riffs ever, I also think he's a fucking whack job. My taste in music has nothing to do with my taste in politics, so I couldn't care less what they believe in as long as they rock.

Yeah, that's pretty much my stance. Let the musicians do what they want to do, so long as they keep making music. Me, I'm just going to keep making up my own mind. Something I wish more people would try that.

I stand corrected. Fuzzy memory and all, the lyrics speak for themselves.
