Reportedly "point-blank, in the head" according to the witness on the ground, talking to CNN, who's quoting the police. She was life-flighted away. They're searching the area for the shooter.

It also says that the shooter is in custody.

The suspect ran off and was tackled by a bystander. He was taken into custody. Witnesses described him as in his late teens or early 20s.

I do remember that. I also remember bullets and various objects crashing through windows at congressional offices around that time, and those same people denying any correlation. That was borderline horrifying.

Watching CBS live feed from the local Tucson station; she's alive and in surgery at a hospital and her staff has asked national news media to retract statements that she died in the shooting.

Well, considering there has been no statement about the motivation of the shooter, just speculation, I think it's a bit early to say that.

And anyway, I doubt it'd be true, even if the shooter was a rabid Palin fan. "Disturbed individual," "lone actor," "so sad that anyone would take these statements literally and translate them into such horrific violence," etc etc etc.
