To be completely uncouth, Muslims are to science as Chinese are to math. Even though Iran has a President who I could only compare to as the Kirk Cameron of the Middle East, their capability is vast, and reasonability volatile.
As a side note: I'd like to see Pam Grier fight Sarah Palin.

Is "uncouth" a synonym for "wrong" where you're from? Pick any definition of the word.
I'm not saying that we should sneeze at Iranian scientific achievements, but it's a good idea to figure out where pieces of opinion like "reasonability volatile" come from.
Their President is sort of immaterial in this. I really think it's going overboard to say "look out, now they'll know where to fire missiles." Iranian mullah culture can be hard to follow when it comes to technology, space, and nuclear armament. However, I feel it's jumping the gun to let Western media spin on situations like this convince one that this means war, to borrow from Bugs Bunny.
a feat President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said showed Iran could defeat the West in the battle of technology
How? By hoping the animals get bombarded with cosmic rays and get superpowers?

the ability to put an object into orbit generally equals the ability to put an ICBM pretty much anywhere on the planet. the fact that they're sending live animals up (presuming the animals survive the launch) indicates to me the ability to put delicate equipment up there.
The launch was also a finger in the eye for America, which has seen its latest long-range anti-ballistic-missile test in the Pacific suffer an embarrassing radar malfunction. America, meanwhile, has let it be known that it is increasing patrols in the Gulf by ships equipped to shoot down shorter-range missiles and is selling advanced land-based missile defences to several of Iran’s Arab and Turkish neighbours. What Iran learns from hoisting worms and other creatures aloft will help improve its military rockets, too.
