i'm beyond fucking flabergasted at how, not only did the guy let himself be captured, but how the fuck do his fellow soldiers let one of their own get captured?? i mean... seriously.. huh???

whiskey. tango. foxtrot... over.
Was almost my thoughts. I would like to know where the hell his "buddies" were. The way the news makes it sound, he went out the wire by himself...which, is a big big no no.

he's NG. no offense to the NG, but there's a big difference in the readiness of a unit that trains a few weekends a month, versus that of a unit that trains for their mission continuously and for combat regularly, versus that of a unit that just trains for combat constantly.
Bergdahl apparently left his small outpost on his own on June 30 with no apparent means of defending himself, the official said. Taliban commander Mulvi Sangeen said he visited a military post in the Yousaf Khel district in the Paktika province, got drunk, and was ambushed while returning to his car.
Sangeen said the soldier was taken to a safe place. CNN could not independently verify Sangeen's claims.
A source with the U.S. military denied the claim that Bergdahl was drunk. "The Taliban are known for lying and what they are claiming (is) not true," the source said.
In the video, Bergdahl says he was captured as he was lagging behind a patrol.

yeah, i read that earlier. if he gets schwacked because he wanted to go get drunk, then i got no sympathy.
if his buddies let him get captured because he was lagging on a patrol, then they seriously need to amp up their training.
either way, if he makes it out alive, they better not treat him as a fucking war hero.
edit: who am i kidding?? that guy's as good as dead.
hrmm. i'm ng and we don't leave ppl lagging like that. sounds like his unit or his buddies just really fucked up if thats the case.
andPhaedrius why would he be treated like a war hero vs a former POW? and why let it bother you if they do treat him that way? he was still taken prisoner..regardless of whether or not he was active or ng or patrolling or drinking...
but yeah. I'll be surprised if he makes it out alive.
Treated as a war hero? Ha. If he's killed, I wonder if it will even make the news. The release of this video was barely front page news. Even Fox News dedicated more time to the National Guard birther that volunteered to deploy to Afghanistan and then subsequently sued the DoD to grandstand their shockingly stupid movement.
Phaedrius, for a person who has vehemently defended hate group members and neo-nazis in your ranks, you sure have been saying some disgusting things about this fellow soldier. I'm not one to say that camaraderie is mandatory, but you're making some needlessly vile and callous statements about a fellow soldier, a fellow human fucking being, especially when the facts behind the situation are muddied by inaccuracies and lies.
Honestly, right now, your haughty detestation is fucking disgusting. At least this piece of shit won't be alone in his high-tower.

yeah, i am. and for good fucking reason.
right now, the second marine expeditionary bridage is redirecting its limited resources to try and find this douchebag. as if they didnt have a hard enough task as it is, now they have to go risk their lives to help a guy who selfishly put the lives of other troops in danger just so he could go have some drinks.
its one thing to be overwhelmed by the enemy and inevitably captured, and something entirely different to sneak out of the wire to go have some drinks and end up delaying an entire brigade due to your own stupidity.
so, no, i have nothing good to say about the guy. and if he ends up getting his head cut off, then i at least hope to be able to watch it on youtube.
edit: and as much as i dislike fox news and its retard commentators, that Lt.Col. isnt saying anything remotely inflamatory about the situation.
Jesus Christ, man. We laugh at people who are dumb enough to fall off the boat, but we still fucking turn around and pick them up without griping or blaming them. Sure, we give them a hard time, but at the end of the day, they're shipmates. Everyone knows that they have their backs covered, n matter what kind of stupid shit they get themselves into. You're pinning this all on what the fucking Taliban commander said? Unconfirmed rhetoric? Your childishness is un-fucking-believable. Please, get the fuck out of my military. I'm sick of having people like you representing the rest of us in the armed services.

I thought nothing has been confirmed so far. I could be wrong, but if nothing truly has been confirmed - then your anger is based on nothing more than speculation.

I see. And yet he is the douche bag.
Dunno dude, I really don't want anyone dying over there - regardless of what mistakes they have made.
I mean, if we are going to find joy in those who are killed for making mistakes, then why not put every person who decided to deploy our military on trial?

yes, we turn the motherfucking boat around, pick the motherfucker up, and tell him what a huge motherfucking retard he is.
no, i'm not pinning this on the motherfucking taliban. the stupid motherfucker disapeared from the base, not out of the wire on some patrol. theres no fucking way his patrol returned to base without noticing their tail end was missing. no fucking way. doesnt matter if its national guard or some high speed navy seal team, no infantry unit is that fucking careless about their own fucking guys.
there's no vast conspiracy here to redirect blame onto the soldier himself. he got himself into the situation, and thats that.

For this, he deserves to die? And what's with this "vast conspiracy" bullshit. We don't even know what the situation was, so don't continue to be so fucking imperceptive. Not only are you whining about turning the boat around, but you could care less if this guy fucking drowns. Hell, you want to stand up on deck and watch it. How fucking sick is that?

Nothing remotely inflammatory?
Peters: Now look, Julie, I want to be clear. If, when the facts are in, we find out that through some convoluted chain of events, he really was captured by the Taliban, I'm with him. But, if he walked away from his post and his buddies at wartime... I don't care how hard it sounds, as far as I'm concerned, the Taliban can save us a lot of legal hassles and legal bills.
I guess having a Lt. Col. say that he's okay with the Taliban executing a captured American soldier doesn't sound inflammatory if your skull is as thick as this douchebag's. But to me, it does. There's no official account of how he got captured, but until then it's fine to speculate and condemn him to death? This is the same piece of shit who advocated soldiers killing members of the American media.
How full of shit are you people? This is off the chart. At least you two are consistent, which is all I can hope for. Lots of fucking thinking going on here.

he didnt say anything about it being ok for the taliban to execute a captured american soldier, he said it was ok for the taliban to execute an american deserter who deserted not only at a time of war, but overseas in the middle of the fucking war zone.

OK, let's just say your belief that he went to a bar is true. Again, to many of us it is only speculation but...
GOING TO A FUCKING BAR TO HAVE A DRINK DOES NOT MAKE HIM A DESERTER - IT FUCKING MEANS HE WENT AWOL. And in going AWOL - it doesn't mean he wasn't coming back. You do not know he was a deserter. None of you fucktards who are accusing him of that know that. Not one.
So charge him for A.W.O.L. if that's the case when he gets back but I am pretty fucking sure the punishment for going A.W.O.L. is not death.

after 29 days of unauthorized abscence, its considered desertion, and thats stateside.
i'm pretty sure in a war zone, you get much less time than that.

Ok, I said the idea is ridiculous, please learn to read. That was my point, which I had hoped was obvious. If you're so excited about this guy being executed for desertion, maybe you could convince the fucking Taliban (our fucking enemy in Afghanistan, the people you're fucking cheering for right now) to let you do the deed. I mean, really: you're quite the debater. Shit, while you're at it, try to get Outback to go vegan!
I wish I could create an empathy gun. I'd aim it right at your numb skull.
Equating a guy being abducted with desertion is like equating food services with dating web sites. I'm curious if you support all laws as they apply to everyday life? You're obviously dodging direct questions that point out how ridiculous this is.
