David Kellermann, the acting chief financial officer of money-losing mortgage giant Freddie Mac was found dead at his home Wednesday morning in what police said was an apparent suicide.

The Fairfax County police responded to a 911-call at 4:48 a.m. at the suburban Virginia home Kellermann shared with his wife and a daughter. The police would not release the cause of death or say if a suicide note was found.

It's sad. Even if he stole or mishandled the money, and I am not alleging that he did, it is still just money at the end of the day. robot

It wasn't just the money...even if he did anything illegal. If he did commit suicide...there was something else eating away at him. You don't go from a carefree, healthy, happy life...to suicide in one step.

I think it's sad when anyone commits suicide...when you think of the pain they must have been going through to take that drastic a step.

I wouldn't make the assumption that he was carefree, healthy, and happy to begin with. Someone having a good job, a family, and everything seeming to be going well for them is no guarantee that they're not suffering from any number of easily concealable serious psychological problems.

Yeah, just like when Owen Wilson attempted suicide.

I would have never imagined.

I wasn't making the assumption. I was illustrating the point that someone who commits suicide clearly wasn't living a carefree, happy life despite outward appearances.

Yeah, it just seemed like there was an implication that there must have been some other bad thing he was doing, and wanted to clarify that the other thing(s) going on could easily be internal. smile

It is just money but some people it's all they have and without it they feel they have nothing.

And if they are using it to compensate or for self worth it's sad but for the ones that intentionally are greedy and ruin other peoples lives because of money they need to kill themselves and do the world a favor.

Just money?

I'm sure that's how the retiree who's counting on her 401k to pay for that expensive medical treatment feels about it.

Money is the medium by which we negotiate trust. You do something for me, I give you money so that someone will do something for you in the future. If your money is worth nothing, your trust that you'd be taken care of in return for taking care of me is betrayed.

Not at you FellOnEarth I am just building on your comment.

I am guessing that that crap means he got a traffic ticket a month ago. What that has to do with anything is beyond me.

BTW depressed/suicidal people are self destructive and sometimes a traffic ticket is just a traffic ticket.

it was over a year ago and it doesn't have anything to do with anything other than that most people go through their whole lives without getting ticketed for driving like an asshole.

And I'm sure lots of people who do get ticketed for driving like assholes don't commit suicide. I don't know what this has to do with anything.

Thank you pointing out the ticket was written 13 months ago. It just serves to make my and FreakPirate's comments more meaningful.

Ah! So you've never been pulled over? Now if you'd said "AGGRIVATED ASSAULT" within the last month, then it might have meant something.

Virginia Code § 46.2-868.1: Aggressive driving; penalties.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
A. A person is guilty of aggressive driving if (i) the person violates one or more of the following: § 46.2-802 (Drive on right side of highways), § 46.2-804 (Failure to observe lanes marked for traffic), § 46.2-816 (Following too closely), § 46.2-821 (Vehicles before entering certain highways shall stop or yield right-of-way), § 46.2-833.1 (Evasion of traffic control devices), § 46.2-838 (Passing when overtaking a vehicle), § 46.2-841 (When overtaking vehicle may pass on right), § 46.2-842 (Driver to give way to overtaking vehicle), § 46.2-842.1 (Driver to give way to certain overtaking vehicles on divided highway), § 46.2-843 (Limitations on overtaking and passing), any provision of Article 8 (§ 46.2-870 et seq.) of Chapter 8 of Title 46.2 (Speed), or § 46.2-888 (Stopping on highways); and (ii) that person is a hazard to another person or commits an offense in clause (i) with the intent to harass, intimidate, injure or obstruct another person.

B. Aggressive driving shall be punished as a Class 2 misdemeanor. However, aggressive driving with the intent to injure another person shall be punished as a Class 1 misdemeanor. In addition to the penalties described in this subsection, the court may require successful completion of an aggressive driving program.

So he was guilty of a misdemeanor and not an infraction, but it's still not a felony. People make simple mistakes but that doesn't mean they kill themselves for it a year later. I think you're reaching here. He was probably just stressed out from his career, perhaps his family life was falling a part, who knows.

That ticket really means nothing without context.

Example: If a truck in front of you suddenly hits the brakes hard in order to make an illegal left turn across a double yellow line and you have to pass them on the right in order to avoid hitting them, a cop can give you that exact ticket.

When you go to court, you would get asked a simple yes or no question: did you pass the truck on the right? If you answer yes, you get convicted - the illegal and dangerous driving of the other person has no bearing if the judge feels like convicting you, and there are plenty of hard-ass cops and traffic court judges in the moneyed VA/DC suburbs.

Maybe the guy was really driving like an asshole, maybe not, but like I said, without context it's not a useful measure of anything.

Touche sir, you have it! Something like that happened in Mexico with a former drug lord who "died" on the operating table getting a major face lift (something they even alluded to in the movie Traffic). I thought the same thing (jokingly) when Ken Lay of Enron died, but I really do think he's dead (though these people don't).

We must consider the fact that Mr. Lay may be wearing a disguise. It is also possible that he has undergone some plastic surgery to change his appearance. He may also now be a she. Or Al Capone.
