How is this a current event? I was under the impression California had earthquakes on a weekly, if not daily, basis.

The Earthquake broke it.

There was an earthquake here about a week ago. Usually they're like the one you had, subtle and rocking. But theone last week was shallow and the epicenter was very close. So even though it was just 4.0, it was a very sharp harsh jolt. Felt like someone hit my house with a truck.

I've never experience an earthquake. I think I would freak out if I did.

we get several everyday, but those are just tremors. a 6.5 is an earthquake.

I remember when I stayed in California for the summer, practically everyone who met me, when they found out I was from Oklahoma, would ask if I was scared of tornados! Hell no! You can predict a tornado, and you can hide from it. You can't predict or hide from an earthquake. surreal

Classic misconception. We have some big ones every once in a while, but only two (1906 and 1989) were really devastating. Not nearly as devastating as living in hurricane country, despite what you may guess.

From what I read, it was pretty bad. There are two people so far who have died.

Blizzards and the occasional tornado here...

I experienced a tremor about a year ago (I'm not sure about the date, because I'm bad at that kind of thing). It was around 6:30 in the morning and I was still asleep and I woke up to my bed rolling around. My house was wobbling. It was surreal. And I fell back asleep afterwards. Then my alarm went off and it was crazy trailer trash people on the radio talking about it for WAAAAY too long.

But we're in NH and it's big news over here.

We're ready for them out here for the most part, though. The Loma Prieta ('World Series') quake in 1989 killed 63 and the Northridge quake in 1994 killed 57. Not bad for areas with populations of about 5,900,000 and 9,000,000 respectively. An earthquake the size of those in Turkey kills tens of thousands.

Be glad you dont see it coming like you do a hurricane. I cant stand watching everyone running around in a panic for a sheet of wood and a gallon of water. It is very sad. frown

I freakin' LOVE Earthquakes! They Rock hehe and Roll... um, yeah- I was in my basement when it hit and our heavy bag was swinging back and forth. Maybe someday I'll be a witness to California finally sinking into the ocean! How cool is that? Yes, earthquakes are awesome at population control, I'm just sad they don't happen more often.

I've been in a tornado, Hurricaine Andrew, and the 1989 San Fran earthquake. Earthquakes are much more fun.
