from msnbc.com:

A Texas mother who tragically lost her 21-year-old son hopes that she will be able to raise her grandchildren after a judge granted her request to posthumously harvest sperm from his body.

Evans son, Nikolas Colton Evans, died Sunday in an Austin hospital, two weeks after he was punched outside an Austin bar early in the morning of March 27.

“It really wasn’t difficult,” Evans said of her decision. “It was something that he’d talked about since he was a little boy. I always dreamed about watching my children have children of their own … What was difficult was actually losing my son and not being able to see him graduate from college and get married and have children the way other people have children. The whole process has been horrific; this had actually given me a bit of a bright light at the end of this devastating experience.”

Evans, who has one other son, age 22, told the Austin American-Statesman newspaper that Nikolas wanted to have three sons someday and had even picked out their names: Hunter, Tod and Van.

I feel the worst for Van.

Still, she loves her son...

Wait, dude died from a punch? Was he fighting ninjas for his soul or something?

wait, maybe i am missing something, but nowhere does it say that she wants to fertilize herself with her son's sperm, she wants to get a surrogate mother, which really kind of makes this not so much gross, as mildly creepy.

and people die from punches all the time, you can get hit just wrong, or get knocked down and fall poorly.

no to get too far off topic..but yes, it is surprisingly easy to die from a punch. I've seen it happen in person.

Loving grandmother looking for a woman who will carry my son's child to term. Must be of good stock, not do drugs, or smoke. Must be willing to walk away and let me have the grandson I was supposed to get. Red heads need not apply.

No one said she wanted to fertilize herself with the sperm. That does not make harvesting sperm from a dead person in order to have the grandchildren you feel you deserve any less gross or creepy.

Huh. That should make for an interesting moment later on when the kids eventually want to know how their dad died at least a good year before they were born.

I don't understand why people like children so much. To me, they are always loud and annoying. And to extract sperm from a dead person so you can have grandchildren? That seems triple crazy to me.

People go through a lot when they're grief stricken. This all happened so quickly. Let's just hope that once she comes to grip with her loss that she'll think things through more clearly. I just wonder how she knew post-mortem sperm harvesting was possible. It's not the sort of thing that normally comes to mind at a time like this. Maybe something happened close to or during this time which made the idea seem like a good one to her. Maybe someone told her it was possibilty, or she read about it somewhere and she clung to the idea as a way of hanging on to her son.

One of my roommates in college punched a kid who fell back cracked his skull and died. My old roommate is still in prison.

Talk about selfish!

This woman is going to create children just because she misses her son? Is she going to raise them, or hope someone else does and they can just visit her on Sundays?

Millions of abortions of children nobody wants, and this woman is going to create more???

No, this is how I feel. You think this woman should be able to create children just because she misses her son? We're not talking about stuffed animals here.

I think he is refering to your attempt to twist this into an abortion debate.

I'm not doing any such thing. I'm saying that there is no shortage of kids, do we really need to make more from dead people?

Then I would suggest being more careful with the wording you choose. Also this . ..

No, this is how I feel.
