A US Airways jetliner crashed into the frigid Hudson River on Thursday afternoon after a flock of birds apparently disabled both its engines, but rescuers pulled the more than 150 passengers and crew members into boats before the plane sank, authorities say.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Laura Brown said Flight 1549 had just taken off from LaGuardia Airport en route to Charlotte, N.C., when the crash occurred in the river near 48th Street in midtown Manhattan.

I blame the vegetarians for this tragedy. If these geese had been eaten beforehand, the plane crash could have been avoided.

They somehow got the plane tied up to a pier already, which is amazing considering the thing went down what, about three hours ago give or take?

These people were off the plane before it sank and they salvaged the wreckage before it sank. Incredible.

Bloomberg and Patterson are on television dispelling terrorism worries and not commenting on the cause, the rumor does appear to be geese.

Oh please please! That will be good. Geese are evil. I stand by that.
So wait, if PETA is defending the geese, does this mean that PETA people don't fly? I mean, if it is disturbing the atmosphere of birds like this? surreal

Had CNN on in the background as usual and heard this quote....
"I pulled out my Blackberry to take a picture of the plane crashing into the water and then realized "Oh wait, I should really be calling 911.""
NO SHIT. I know the lines were jammed and all. But it really hits home that society is more concerned about taking pics of the disaster before calling emergency services.
