Larry Flynt and Joe Francis head to Washington to ask for a $5 Billion dollar bailout for the porn industry.

Good thinking porn industry, send Joe Francis, the guy indicted on federal tax evasion charges to ask for a bailout.

Two thoughts come to mind.

1). I've a hard time believing Larry Flynt is serious, but no problem thinking this is yet another way for him to tweak the government's nose.

2). Larry Flynt may not be the most wholesome guy in the world, but (my opinion) he has a lot more credibility than Joe Francis.

Seriously, this has just gone too far. I mean, really porn bail out?? What are they going to blame the internet for the downturn in business? Where the hell is my bail out? tongue

I think that's kind of the point. If the government is handing out money to "struggling" businesses, everyone should get a piece, right? Flynt makes it hilarious, Joe Francis just makes it sad.

Isn't it like a billion dollar industry?

It's like a 13 billion dollar a year industry.

They're having their hard times, like the movie and music industry, with pirating and alternative websites that offer amateur porn for free. Articles i have read said DVD sales (their biggest grossing product) are down 15% in the last year due to these websites.

It may just be an anomaly.

Either way i think this is being done for show more than anything else, i just personally despise Joe Francis.

This thing is an absolute no-brainer. The decline of porn has a direct negative impact on the sales of certain items like DVDs, magazines, or paper tissue, see, all these things are connected. It's got to be all about job creation, too.

I know you're just joking, but this is the kind of rhetoric that Republicans used to block the auto bailout in the Senate. The suffering pornography industry, despite earning 13 billion dollars a year, does not hold a candle to the crisis enveloping US automakers, and the government has no vested interest in supporting it through hard times. Whole cities aren't built around porn factories. The infrastructure of American cities is not dependent on porn. There won't be 500,000 porn stars on unemployment should Hustler or GGW go under. Ergo, eff this noise.

Though I'm curious what a porn factory town would be like.

Yes, I was joking, though as reported by CNN awhile back shortly after the bailout got pushed through (and sorry, I am not digging for anything as I am enjoying my codeine cough syrup and feeling too lazy to link) that there was no specific definition about what a "financial institution" was on the application form and Paulson couldn't define it either, which meant loads of people, cities, and yes, states, filling out the application to get bailout money. Hence, this joke of a porn bailout.
And a porn factory town - god that has got me giggling. blush

Wouldn't it be more of a $5 billion pullout?

C'mon, people! Dig deep! Save our porn! Just, you know, take Joe Francis out of the picture until he learns to be a good, law-abiding boy and, more importantly, stop making shitty porn.

But has Larry Flynt ever steered you wrong? I mean, the man put Jerry Falwell in his place and made our free-thinking, satirical society all the better for it.

And the man just wants some cyborg legs. I see no ill will in his heart.

Also, quite amusingly, Flynt was quoted as saying...

Congress must "rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America."

...which is something they haven't done since releasing the Starr Report.

It depends on whether the bus was a one-way-trip to someplace unpleasant or not.
