A writer I admire and follow summed up my feelings on post election reconciliations in a Twitter update the other day:

You lost, fuck you, go die in a bin.

Someone will recognize that, but that pretty much sums up my feelings on her doing anything other than staying in the Senate. You lost, Senator, go represent your constitutes and shut the fuck up.

Didn't the rumors about John Kerry getting SoS post just die down? They really can't be pulling everybody out of the House and Senate to fill the Obama administration. Okay, Hillary doesn't have as much seniority as others, but they are this close to something good. They can't go strip mining the legislator.

What makes Clinton a good choice for SoS other than turning that position into a "consolation prize?" It's a real cabinet post, with real job requirements. How is she the most qualified person for that job? Fuck that noise.

You know, my mom ran a restaurant for thirty years. I grew up talking about her job with her all the time.

Somebody gives me a P.F. Chang's. I'm clearly qualified.

Seriously, for my money, I'd rather see Bill Richardson in that seat, but I understand that there might be even better qualified candidates out there I'm either not thinking of, or unaware of altogether.

It seems to me that the media doesn't want the election cycle ratings to die down, so rather than move on because the election's over they would rather treat every rumor out of an unpaid intern in the transition office like 'news' and the selection of staff and cabinet positions as though it were Sportscenter covering some strange combination of the World Series and the NFL Draft.

It seems really weird that everyone wants sitting senators to become Obama cabinet members.

Until you realize most people don't know anyone actually in government other than popular Senators who get a lot of teevee time.

Wake me up when all the speculating is over. If his cabinet is anything like his campaign, it will be highly effective and drama-free. No matter who he picks, that will be the tone he sets from the top, from day 1.

Wouldn't Bill be a more logical choice? I'm not saying he should get it, but I think it would make more sense.

Wait, you're not trying to say that one of my major problems with her--foreign policy--should actually be recognized? Nah, GO DEMS!

I love Bill, but he was a poor FP pres.

I want a FP wonk!

Technically, Obama's top foreign policy wonk already has a job in the Administration: Vice-President.
Richardson makes the most sense, since he's been UN Ambassador, and was a foreign policy wonk in the House, plus his work as a go-between with North Korea.
It wouldn't surprise me if Obama grabbed someone from the House or a retired politician (I think Tom Daschle has been mentioned), or even (*OMG!*) a career diplomat.

That's what I'm talking about, and preferably someone that can speak OMG Arabic or possibly Russian or Chinese (something). But keep in mind deutsche-bag interim UN ambassador appointee (doesn't mean a whole lot). Just give me wit and experience.

Okay, first things, could someone please present their arguments for why Richardson would make a more effective Secretary of State choice compared to Clinton in terms of experience, policy, or current position in government (ie, that whole "mining the Senate" dilemma). And if we could avoid devolving into "Hillary is the worst senator EVAR" that would be awesome. I have no strong feelings on the matter and am curious as to why so many here favor Richardson.

Second thing, spelling. Constitutes =/= constituents. Legislator =/= legislature. Normally I'm not a stickler but this is getting a little egregious.

As far as I'm concerned Obama owes Hilary nothing after the way she campaigned against him in the primary as if he were a Republican. For a Democratic candidate to say the Republican candidate is more qualified than another Democratic candidate on national TV is unforgivable. Then there was the whisper campaign that he was a Muslim, leaking photos, anonymous emails, refusing to deny it on TV when given a direct opportunity. Shameless. You don't fight that dirty and that hard against your own team.

And in particular, Richardson is an expert on and had talks with North Korea and Iraq, even during the Bush administration. I have a hard time thinking of anyone with credibility with that much recent foreign policy experience who is available for the post.

And I'm not, but if I were thinking that way, Richardson endorsed Obama long before he had the election sown up. He put a lot of friendships on the line, and got hit pretty hard. It would be nice if Obama rewarded that.
