In an article that makes me giggle like a schoolgirl President-elect Obama is apparently lining up hundreds of Executive Orders issued by Dubya over the past eight years so that he can issue his own order to repeal them.

Transition advisers to President-elect Barack Obama have compiled a list of about 200 Bush administration actions and executive orders that could be swiftly undone to reverse White House policies on climate change, stem cell research, reproductive rights and other issues, according to congressional Democrats, campaign aides and experts working with the transition team.

"The kind of regulations they are looking at" are those imposed by Bush for "overtly political" reasons, in pursuit of what Democrats say was a partisan Republican agenda, said Dan Mendelson, a former associate administrator for health in the Clinton administration's Office of Management and Budget.

So what specific orders might be reversed you may ask? How about stem cell research, the global abortion gag rule, and allowing Californina, and other States, to set their own auto emission standards for starters?

Obama himself has signaled, for example, that he intends to reverse Bush's controversial limit on federal funding of embryonic stem cell research, a decision that scientists say has restrained research into some of the most promising avenues for defeating a wide array of diseases, such as Parkinson's.

*****************

The new president is also expected to lift a so-called global gag rule barring international family planning groups that receive U.S. aid from counseling women about the availability of abortion, even in countries where the procedure is legal, said Cecile Richards, the president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. When Bill Clinton took office in 1993, he rescinded the Reagan-era regulation, known as the Mexico City policy, but Bush reimposed it.

*****************

The president-elect has said, for example, that he intends to quickly reverse the Bush administration's decision last December to deny California the authority to regulate carbon dioxide emissions from automobiles. "Effectively tackling global warming demands bold and innovative solutions, and given the failure of this administration to act, California should be allowed to pioneer," Obama said in January.

I am happy! biggrin

For those of you who would like to read a bit more take a look at Slate's top 10 Executive Orders from Dubya that need to be reversed.

You may want to keep an eye on ol' shady Dubya as this list is sure to grow in the coming months. He has already opened up protected marine sanctuaries to sport fishing. More specifically all "...national wildlife refuges, national parks, national monuments, national marine sanctuaries, marine protected areas..."

Can we just make him leave? Now?

This sounds excellent, i have read about the abserdities in the system created by the federal block on funding stem cell reserch after a certain date. Its insane when you think how many people could be helped by it.

I blame religeon for two of these supposed 'issues' as far as i am concerned there is no debate about abortion being legal and stem cell reserch being necessary. Thats jus how it should be

I applaud this.

One clarification: California has always been able to set its' own stricter emissions standards regarding the three recognized pollutants (HC, CO, NOx) since CA standards predate Federal standards. Other states may not set their own standards, but may adopt CA standards, and 11 other states currently do just that. Illinois and Florida may go that way too, by 2010.

The controversy was that CA wanted to reclassify carbon dioxide (CO2) as a pollutant and add standards for that as well. Since CO2 output is a result of fuel efficiency, adding a CO2 standard is a de facto mileage standard, something no state may legislate. This is the crux of the argument between California and the federal government.

Good news. But what bugs me is that he has such a big mess to clean up that it might delay some of the other reforms he'd like to implement.

Wow. Not only are you still bashing on Obama, but you're still bringing up Bill Ayers. Even when he has nothing to do with the subject.

Seriously? STILL? Seriously?

Hopefully Obama dispenses with signing statements on the whole. I also find them abhorrent. I'd probably add disgusting, insulting, and unconstitutional, too.

Perhaps the Obamas will adopt some terrier(ist)s to pal around with.

I suggest (liberal elitist east-coast) Boston Terrier(ist)s.

You know, I'm not usually one to jump on a bandwagon. Hell, I've defended you in the past, and have had several friends who were much more right wing than me. They've managed to convince me they were right on certain things, and I've managed to convince them that I was right on certain issues.
That being said, all I can say to your post is the following: "heh heh heh heh heh".
Seriously, you've managed to prove to me that, once again, you have no knowledge of American history what so ever, and have no independent mind, save for Republican talking points. Its all kinda funny, really.

So, I'll tell you the same thing I've said before: "get thee to Bethel". You want to position yourself as some true-blue Alaskan then I suggest you go out and see the REAL Alaska. Might do you a bit of good.
