October 2003

NOV 25, 2003 01:11 PM

I just saw this sort of question in the diy group.

First are you a republican?

Why is it better than being another party?

did you vote for bush? why

Disclaimer:

I'm a democrat and voted for gore. Bush is not doing a good job (but what do you expect from a democrat?)

I won't even go into the lying about the reasons for going to war, if you're a republican you tell me your spin on that.

No.

They don't represent me or my interests.

It's not better and parties in general are counterproductive, IMO.

No.

Because he had very little leadership experience and comes from a party I disagree with and a faction of that party who's policies and priorities are the opposite of my values and priorities

1) No.
2) It isn't.
3) HELL no. As a frequent recreational drug user who drinks too much, lies and avoids responsibility like the plague, I know only too well that someone like me SHOULD NEVER EVER EVER become president.

No.

I don't really have any faith in either of the parties anymore. No one can trust them to deliver on their promises and it is hard to believe anything they say because of that.

I did not vote for Bush because I don't appreciate him forcing his ideas of family values and ethics in general down the throats of the people.

... I say this passionately, realizing (of course) that many politicians fall into the same crap... It's really sad.

I'm a registered republican. But that was a favor to the local politicians. All the local politicians are republican and they do a pretty good job. I don't think republican vs. democrat matters on the local level.

Federally, I tend to go democrat because I'm pro-choice and I believe in social programs.

That said, I don't affiliate myself with one particular party. I vote for candidates individually. People who vote party-line outght to be kicked in the goodies.

I am a Democrat and I voted for Al Gore (even though I didn't like him much). Just because I hate Middle Eastern terrorists doesn't mean I don't think Bush is a jackass.

I'm a Democrat, but I'm starting to lean towards the Green Party.

What amazes me is even my conservative, US Marine Sergent, Republican father thinks Bush is an idiot.

I'm a little Repub, short and stout.

It's better because we bomb adoption clinics and censor the media and are white.

I don't look at it so much as voting for Bush as not voting for Gore.

Are you a republican?

I view myself as a conservative in that I am for "small government"

Why is it better than being another party?

These days both the republicans and the dem's are almost unrecognizably similar.

Did you vote for bush? Why

Nope, The boy is a brain donor.

First are you a republican?
No, but I tend to vote Republican more than I do Democrat.

Why is it better than being another party?
Ideally, Republicans are better because they are for lower taxes and limited goverment. The key word is ideally...the never seem to actually do anything to make the government smaller. Take for example today's passage of the Medicare bill...

did you vote for bush? why
It ends up being a choice between fiscal conservativism or social liberalism and the fiscal usually wins. At the time of the election I felt that fiscal issues were more important than any social issues that would come up in the next four years...and then 9-11/Iraq happened.

I am not happy with the way Bush has handled the war or foreign policy over the past few years so I will not be voting for him again. I'm hoping that Howard Dean wins the Democratic nomination because he is one of the few Democratic candidates I could bring myself to vote for. Honestly, the biggest thing he has going for him (at least in my book) is that the leaders of the DNC hate him.

First are you a republican?

No. I am a registered Democrat, but consider myself a liberal progressive.

Why is it better than being another party?

Democrats are not all that great really, they are just a better alternative. I actually respect TRUE Republicans, but they are a dying breed (Buchanan, et al). Now that the Neo-Cons have taken over the party, from the president to the average joe, I view them as a serious threat to my ideals.

Did you vote for bush? why

I protest Bush.

my whole family is staunchly democratic except for my brother who is not only republican, but a member of the NRA who wears a big belt bukle with an eagle that says "Proud to be an American." surreal We still love him though.

I am a registered republican, but I never vote on party lines. I used to be independent, but I figure I might as well get to vote on the primaries on someones side. I dont like the philosophical belief that democrats run under, socialism, so I went with the republicans. I hate bush so much, and this way I get to vote on primaries and I would have definatly voted for McCain over bush in a heartbeat. This way I COULD always go with the democratic canidate IF i like them, but I get to try and block out any goons like bush in the rep party. I belive in most of what the liberatarian party stands for. I have many greenparty friends, but I do not belive that helping people out is the responsability of the govt, I know that any taxation besides fighting force and fraud makes it tempting for big business to lean on a politician and bribe them to escape being taxed, so any of that nonsense that people get taxed for besides protection from force and fraud is poison.

I know that if people had all their tax money to spend, there would be a lot more money in OUR hands to help out the homeless, etc. AND it would be better run because people are always MUCH more careful with thier own dough.

Two main reasons that conservatives/Republicans (mostly Christian if I may stereotype) voted for him was the whole abortion thing and the fact that Clinton (and thus Gore) was seen as pure evil. I'm sorry to say I bought into this mentality and voted for "the lesser of two evils." In the rare case that I ever vote again, it will certainly not be Republican.

I can confirm this. When I confronted people in 2000 about why George Bush was an idiot, I got the response that they didn't care as long as he was anti-abortion.

I'm not a republican nor am I a democrat. I didn't vote for bush, gore, or nadar.

Neither main party is right. They are so polarized they ultimately represent the same thing.

I don't vote for any political party over a political canidate

I registered as a repub way back when. Then re-reged as a Dem. As a point of fact, I think both parties are a far cry from representative of my interests. I generally vote for a Dem as I consider them the lesser of two evils.

As for Bush...no, didn't vote for him...can't wait to see him gone.

well that will never happen, because McCain was foolish enough to publicly question the Republican Party's devotion to the ultra conservative religious right.

All I know is that the Democrats better get their shit together and rally behind somebody reasonable pretty damn soon, or we are all gonna be hearing Ashcroft breathing on the other end of our phone calls really damn soon. Oh wait, we already are...
