so i guess this turns into the point where now every question you've had has been answered and every poorly-posited and vague argument you've presented has been refuted. are you just being willfully obtuse, or are you attempting to perpetuate what's obviously one hell of a troll thread?

well, he doesnt trust obama. could be because hes a handsome, successful lawyer with a beautiful wife and family, or that he has an energized cult like legion of followers, or that hes written two successful books and does not appear to be a drunkard.

okay, so he doesn't trust obama. i just think it's funny that he's scrambling for a reason not to trust him. i'm pretty sure there are other, "legitimate" reasons for a libertarian to not trust a candidate. this shit is just silly. it's like he's on the fence, so he just needs some bullshit excuse to stop himself. like he's slapping himself in the face.

there's no point in starting a discussion thread when you're, from the get-go, reluctant to pay attention to the discussion. isn't there some new anti-trolling measure?

John McCain was born at the Coco Solo U.S. military base in the Panama Canal Zone to U.S. parents. So even if Obama was born overseas, which I do not believe, he is just as "natural born" as McCain.

(The complaint against Obama apparently being the US Constitution which provides: No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President)

A few years ago, I had to get a new copy of my social security card, as mine had been accidentally destroyed. I had to order an official notarized birth certificate to be sent to me. It looked a lot like the one the Obama campaign posted -- a modern computer print-out on a watermarked background.

My original birth certificate (a copy of which I'd seen in a "baby book" my mother kept when I was a kid) looked a lot more like the second one you posted. It is on file in the records, but it is not what gets sent out when you request an official copy.

The Social Security Administration didn't think there was any question about the validity of the document I handed them, nor did they question my citizenship because of it.

Got any other non-issues to float?

So did it not list the name of the doctor or who signed it, or any of the other information normally listed?

I have had to get a birth certificate to get a passport, and that was not my experience at all.

Some states offer the short form. Some do not. Hawaii does. Your state may not have at the time you requested it, or you may have requested the full document rather than the short form. The short form was already explained in this thread with links to prove its existence.

As for any lingering questions regarding Obama...

http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/born_in_the_usa.html

JUST FUCKING READ IT.

Every bit of it.

Including the independent verification that the documents do exist.

Including the a copy of the Honolulu Advertiser newspaper from Sunday, Aug. 13, 1961 with Barack Obama's birth announcement.

Including the statement from the Hawaii Department of Health verifying that the documents are indeed real and official.

I mean, hey, there could be a vast conspiracy to pretend that Obama is indeed an American citizen born in Hawaii, starting back in 1961 when his grandparents, sensing the child was special and would go on to become president, planted that fake birth announcement in the Hawaii newspaper...

Also, none of it really matters.

His mother was a U.S. citizen at the time of his birth, which means he was as well. No matter where he was born. And someone who is a citizen at the time of his birth is, by definition, a natural born citizen.

I don't think petepolly did anything wrong here. He had only partial information which led him to a false conclusion. He asked for more information, received it, and accepted it. That's what you're supposed to do when you don't know something.

are you really that unaware of petepolly's shtick? he comes in here, riles up shit, and ignores all logical debate/conversation on his topic du jour.

Oh, I'm very aware.

He didn't do that this time. He asked a question, it was answered, he said, "Oh, okay. Thanks." If we reward him for doing that, he'll keep doing it. Pavlov. I'm fine with that. It would be a huge improvement.

lil tuffy, bean, Shalome; isn't this a perfect example of the challenge to moderate this board.

Call me a cynic; but this feels like a question posted by someone who already demonstrated a desire to challenge everything about the candidate Obama, posting, as innocuously as possible, a question that can only be described as bait.

The participants make ANOTHER feeble attempt to respond responsibly. What follows is thinly disguised baiting, which in turn earns (regulated), and much deserved snarky responses.

The threads have turned into some bizarre combination of clever trolling taken to refined levels, followed by increasingly carefully crafted responses designed to halt such trolling, followed by further attempts to incite responses, followed by exasperation revealed as...well, you get the point.

I don't even know why I am posting this except to express my frustration both with what is happening and how the moderators have chosen to respond. I don't have an answer, beyond the ignore feature.

Aaaaaaaaaand no one had posted in this thread in 12 hours, and it was sinking quietly into the depths of CE where it belonged, until you needlessly bumped it to bitch about how we do our jobs.

Good going!

I'm leaving this thread open. Any comments about why it's open or debating whether or not you "feel like" the OP may not have been totally sincere and honest in his posting will be deleted, because you know what?

I really, really don't fucking care. smile

There's nothing requiring anyone to post on a thread you think is stupid. That's your own problem, not mine.

This election season has apparently made the majority of CE posters into insufferable whiners who would rather snark than actually discuss anything, and I'm really fucking sick of it. Don't whine to me about how you think I should do my job, don't bitch about topics you "don't like", don't respond to people or posts you think are trolls, and use the IGNORE feature. It'll make all our lives easier.
