Yes, you are jumping to conclusions thinking it had anything to do with Bush. You're also right that no one understands...I did finish my thought, but I forgot that no one around here understands subtlety.

The point was that the article Sean quoted seemed to be implying that the translation of Mein Kampf into Arabic was an indication of increased anti-semitism among Muslims and particularly among the Palestinians. All I did was point out that Mein Kampf has also been translated into English, but that isn't being used as proof of anti-semitism in the English speaking world. Therefore, the translation alone proves nothing. Perhaps that's not the point he was trying to make, but that's how I interpreted it.

your subtlety was understood by some. however, mein kampf wasn't number 5 on the best seller list.

I missed the best seller point too. But I'm still a genius.

Max and Silentium:

Yes, I noticed the part about it being on the best seller list. That still doesn't necessarily prove anything. If a Stephen King book is a best seller in the US, does that mean that Americans are bloodthirsty satanists? No, it doesn't. boyo.

Hmmm...a large number of people born and raised to a fanatical, suicidal hatred of the Jewish people suddenly buying up large numbers of a newly translated Mein Kampf doesn't strike you as a little bit more than a coincidence or admiration for Hitler's writing style?

Look, you can bury your head in the sand all you want and say Palestinians buying Mein Kampf in droves means nothing. But that would be...naive i think is the only polite term i can come up with...to think that.

You seem that you're already convinced that Palestinians are fanatical anti-semites, so why do you need to appeal to bestseller list to prove it?

Look, you can bury your head in the sand all you want and say Palestinians buying Mein Kampf in droves means nothing. But that would be...naive i think is the only polite term i can come up with...to think that.

I don't think it means nothing, I think it proves nothing. My head is not burried in the sand, I'm perfectly aware of that fanatacism, but I'm opposed to an over simplified black and white view of the world and I'm not prepared to generalize about a large group of people based on a bestseller list.

Has anyone actually read any or all of Mein Kampf? I haven't, so I'm wondering what it says exactly before I decide about the implications of it being a best seller. Not that I don't think it's content is probably offensive, just that until I know for sure what that content is I don't know for sure if the different sides of this discussion are naive or alarmist. I'm just trying to fully understand the issue, not deny anything or offend anyone.

And before anyone attacks me, the Holocaust did happen and was, IMHO, the single worst atrocity humans have ever commited against other humans.

Look, Jeff, perhaps i'm just not that bright this evening, having skipped my morning coffee and all, but i am interested in what you have to say in the matter, whether i agree with you or not.
If googling it will give me some new info that's germane to the subject at hand, that would be helpful. I don't want to go on some wild goose chase for no reason, though.

Not trying to be a dick here, just give me some kind of idea of your point before offering up a blind use of search engine as proof of point.

Akel attributed the popularity of "Mein Kampf" to the
fact it had been banned from the Palestinian
territories for many years during the Israeli
occupation and has only recently been allowed in by
Yasser Arafat's Palestinian Authority.

the mere fact that something has become available for the first time is hardly enough to explain why people are buying it. to put it another way, the release of the ban might explain the supply side, but not the demand side.

I've read a bit, it's a mess. It's not that I needed any more proof that Hitler was a lunatic, but Mein Kampf brings it to a new level.

You can read it here if you want. Although, I would never recommend it.
