And understand that the Republicans are attempting to steal this election. Hundreds of thousands of Democrats have been purged from voter rolls. This sets the plate. It's dumb.

I don't quite understand your argument. They're trying to steal the election, so we shouldn't be worried about people getting complacent? I guess "worry" isn't really the right word. It's clearly possible that some people getting complacent and some people being disenfranchised could cause this race to be much closer than it should be. I don't understand why encouraging people to vote in order to reduce that possibility is a bad thing.

I've been sent emails from Republican relatives. They all say, "watch out for the Bradley effect." It gives them a reason why the vote is suddenly so different from the polls. As does the complacency argument. It gives them the ability to legitimize theft. And they are clearly trying to steal the election.

At least three early voters in Jackson County had a hard time voting for candidates they want to win.

Virginia Matheney and Calvin Thomas said touch-screen machines in the county clerk's office in Ripley kept switching their votes from Democratic to Republican candidates.

"When I touched the screen for Barack Obama, the check mark moved from his box to the box indicating a vote for John McCain," said Matheney, who lives in Kenna.

When she reported the problem, she said, the poll worker in charge "responded that everything was all right. It was just that the screen was sensitive and I was touching the screen too hard. She instructed me to use only my fingernail."

Even after she began using her fingernail, Matheney said, the problem persisted.

The Dems just handed them "people were complacent" along with the mythical Bradley Effect. That's two reasons why the election wasn't stolen.

And as I said, nobody seems to be getting complacent. Early voting is insane. People are really upset with the last 8 years. And there is another way to frame it, as Jace stated above.

Leroy refused to pose for any pictures today.

He is afraid of the pumpkin.

I think it's a matter of tone. If you come off as worried and scared that you might still lose the election, you give a little bit of ground. If you come off like you aren't worried, like you're totally confident, like you haven't even thought about the possibility of losing the election, you gain ground.

So instead of saying "I want everybody running scared" one could say "Make sure you get out and vote so we can get to work."

It's a subtle difference, but I do see the difference.

I think this is a good point.

I agree.

So I didn't want to make a whole new thread titled "Vote, motherfuckers! Kansas edition"

And I couldn't find the thread that I could swear existed for local issues.

But people who live in Kansas should be aware of this list.

It's a questionnaire for people running for the Board of Education. It identifies the anti-evolution, pro-creationism people who are running. Their names are Dennis Hedke and Kathy Martin. Vote against them. Against, not for. Don't let them try to start this shit all over.

Seconded.

Thirded.

Which serves to emphasize the fact that people need to remember that there are a lot more things going on at the polls than just who becomes your next President. Or even your next Senator or Representative.

Educate yourself, and vote accordingly.

Seriously.

It takes like an hour. Just find a sample ballot and go through the names. Check our their websites. Click on the "Issues" button. That's generally where they will announce that they are fucking insane.
