Okay, so the debates are over. The polling and trending keep rolling in.

Don't get complacent and think your state is settled. Don't assume your vote "doesn't matter" one way or another.

Don't get lazy. Don't give up. Don't assume the polls are correct.

VOTE!

Bean and I will be holding our regular Presidential Election party this year, where we invite everyone to our place to watch the results roll in (people with "I Voted" stickers don't have to bring booze). We treat it like a sporting event. I encourage you all to do something similar to help get your friends excited about voting if they're not already. smile

Hell, according to some polls put out by the Fargo Forum, North Dakota might even be in play this election. Since Wisconsin is pretty much a certainty for Obama, I'll be voting here. Who knows, we might even win this state, or make it close!

I'll hit my polling station in Parma, Ohio and then head for LA.

How long does the party usually last?

I'm voting between my student conferences and my night class.

Don't know how I'm going to concentrate on Harlem Renaissance Lit that night, but we're done at 7, so I'll be home in time to watch the returns.

I am always the first face at my polling place here. I wish they had coffee and donuts though like some places around here do. smile

An election party? Damn. I wish I knew enough people who are actually planning to vote, let alone throwing an election party. That's pretty rad.

I started doing this when I was in college. The promise of free booze and a party got friends of mine who'd never voted before to vote for the first time.

I don't work on Tuesday, but sadly I do on Wednesday... Ah well, fuck it. I'm either drinking in celebration or I'm going to try to drown out my sorrow and disbelief. Something tells me I'll be happily hungover trying to contend with a pissy, conservative, overbearing boss.

Oooh! Point taken biggrin

Oh well, I can get an earlier start! I've got a small apartment, but I know I'll have two or three good friends over, so it should be a lot of fun.

I'm seriously considering it. I'll be in town that weekend anyway for SG Disneyland, so I could just shift my plans over a bit.

Even if you live in a state that will probably be won by the other guy (example: I live in Louisiana, which is a safe bet for McCain, I used to live in Maryland, which is almost 100% for Obama), it's still important to vote. Why? Every vote for the under dog candidate in a 'safe' state means more money that the other team has to spend there next election cycle just to keep it 'safe'. Your vote will still make a difference, even if your guy doesn't win your state this time around. Your vote now will make a difference in 2010, 2012, and beyond.

Not to mention the other races that will be on your state's ballot.
