Yep, some people are desperate enough to steal the campaign signs of their competitors when there is no strategy left. Pathetic.

I have to admit that, back in '04, I was desperately tempted to steal a Bush-Cheney sign from time to time. I never did it; largely because I DO believe that people have the right to support who ever they like, and the right to announce their support. Also, I didn't want to get shot biggrin
I, instead, developed an alternative plan of action where they got to keep their signs and _I_ got to express my disdain; namely, I flipped every sign off as I drove by biggrin

Yes; I've matured since then smile

They just talked about this on the local news last night. The made a big point to say it is illegal to steal or destroy signs.

Now, some may think all "missing" signs are destroyed. I bet many end up in the thiefs yard.

My Obama yardsign has been dismantled twice, and I have fixed it twice thus. I suspect it is my new neighbors (I live in a predominantly house-for-rent district), who have among other naughty things a confederate flag on their front porch and tinted their pick-up truck windows with the confederate battle flag.

They must be oblivious to the fact that their neighbors are Palestinian, Lebanese, Somali, Liberian, and Irish.

But, but, it's about Southern PRIDE! It has NO racist connotations, EVER!

I just remantled my sign in the front yard.

My neighbors have started to openly brag about methods for assassinating Obama, while they cook burgers and hot dogs outside. I know they're the ones responsible.

If they continue to do so (make threats against Obama), and he is elected, I suggest you follow the advice of the Neo-Cons and report them as domestic terrorists. I imagine the FBI knocking on their door may take them down a notch or two.

That would be awesome.

Ditto. I would pay quite a bit of money to be able to witness that.

Just to clarify, I know I have a reputation for being sarcastic, which is completely true, but on this issue, I'm dead serious. I hope a SWAT team busts in their white trash, racist door. Being adamantly opposed to a political opponent is fine. Threatening physical harm, or even death, is WAY over the line.

this just sounds like myself when I was a punk teenager. Me and all my friends driving around at night accumulating 20 signs a night and then dumping them all off at one random house. I'm not saying that there isn't someone with more malicious intent of taking the signs, but there can also just be someone looking for a stupid but good time in there minds.

Actually, there is no need to wait for him to win the election. He is under Secret Service protection, draws huge crowds to his rallies, and is surrounded by advisors . . . sounds like your neighbors are hatching a plot for mass murder.

Actually, I had better wait. Getting them kicked out of their lease after they have grown complacent to the house would be far better revenge than doing it so early.

I hate to get real about the idea that obama may have an attempt on his life, but people with that kind of visceral hate towards a race and obama wouldnt want to try an attempt on his life right now, but they will wait (or if) he gets into office to try it. If they do god forbid succeed the reason they waited was too show that they "still have the power" in this country. puke

Why wait? It is a crime to do that (threaten the life of a presidential candidate) now.

I work with someone who has said the following after looking at pictures of sniper hunting rifles he "plans on owning", "If I had that gun, I'd take out Nancy Pelosi and every card-carrying member of the ACLU." Good times, maybe I should look for another job, but in the mean-time am I wrong for not informing on him? When is a threat supposed to be taken seriously and when is it not. I don't know that he'd actually ever do such a thing despite his hatred for "liberal" Americans, yet he knows I'm within that vein of politics so I think he may just have been trying to get a rise out of a "hippie" that he somehow manages to get along with.

Still though, he's a former Army sniper, so who knows... But now that his girlfriend is pregnant, I think he's going to have to start getting serious about real life and will have to worry about how he's going to have another mouth to feed (at least he acknowledges that he's poor, I'm currently trying to convince him that redistribution of wealth is a common and healthy practice among democracies and it's to his advantage, yet he's still trying to defend his dad and rich uncle). Also, what good would I be doing by bring down his life when its just getting started? Hmm, I suppose if I keep hearing such nonsense and I believe he may be up to something, then I might take action, but until then I'm taking a wait and see approach, that's if I bother working there for much longer. My guess is that there are a bunch of idiot-assholes who talk a lot of shit (especially if their motivation has racist overtones), unfortunately, there are some who just might do something about it. frown

You might be extremely surprised at how far a non-committal, non-confrontational "dude, you're so full of shit" can go. Honestly, it is the only sane, rational response to sniping talk that you aren't certain is serious. Don't engage this guy on anything political. Just defuse him constantly saying horrible things like that to you.

I actually have and he's stopped. The last time I heard him say anything remotely like that was about six months ago and I had my cell phone out in a flash asking him if he'd mind repeating what he'd just said. He just gave me a dumb look before he thought I was serious. I told him then that he'd better knock it off with his "joking" because you never know who is listening and what they might think. I told him it was beyond funny the first time I'd heard it. I think he got the point and I haven't heard him say anything more.

I've engaged him in conversation several times since and politics has become a bit of a moot and boring point for either of us since we usually just end up agreeing to disagree. He doesn't seem to think he's a racist and I do. He doesn't seem to think redistribution of wealth is a good idea for the economy and I tell him its a fundamental element to a civil society. He doesn't seem to mind invading other countries while getting shot and blown-up, out his HumVee and I do. (True story, the guy is like a cat but he's used up more lives then he should risk).

I know I may sound naive, but when push comes to shove, I just don't think it's actually in him to do anything so criminal, he just wanted to screw with me for shits and giggles. As I've said before, I think he's just another idiot-asshole.
