what the fuck is going on over there? Who the fuck is in charge over there? Somebody needs to come up with a better plan before somebody I know dies!

12 coalition soldiers die as two U.S. helicopters crash, military says

(11-15) 11:44 PST MOSUL, Iraq (AP) --
MARIAM FAM, Associated Press Writer

today:
Two U.S. Black Hawks crashed after sunset Saturday in this northern Iraqi city, killing 12 coalition soldiers and injuring at least nine, the military said. Witnesses said the two aircraft collided in mid-air.

previously:
Sixteen U.S. service members were killed on Nov. 2 when a Chinook helicopter carrying dozens of soldiers on leave was apparently downed by insurgents near the city of Fallujah west of Baghdad.

A Black Hawk helicopter was shot down on Nov. 7 near the central town of Tikrit, killing all six soldiers aboard.

Remember how the troops were in the papers for a bit talking about how bad moral was over there? Well, even though we havn't heard from them lately I'd bet ya $5 it isn't because they're so fucking happy now!

What do you think is going to happen? Retreat? Vietnam II? Peace? Steady supply of filled body bags? Thoughts?

apparently they're going to be out for july next year.

i'll believe it when i see it.

imo theres too much political power in this war, we saw during the major fighting that orders from the white house left troops flanks exposed, and i strongly suspect that the destruction of the terroists hideout earlier this week was done so the US could be seen to be 'proactive' in the eyes of the media and the electorate.

either that or they've got it so under control they can just throw away intel opportunities...

Well...it seems like the Bush Administration is going to start making headway for Iraqis to take over their own country. It's supposed to happen by June..

All of these senseless deaths. And they're only telling us about the big profile ones.. And let's not forget all of the civilians (oh, I'm sorry...I mean "collateral damage") who have been hurt or killed since the beginning of this war (that we never hear about).

None of this would have happened if G.W. hadn't been so damned hotheaded about war and occupying Iraq in the first place (can anyone say planning for the future). But this was supposed to protect and save the Iraqi people from evil Saddam (who was pretty much contained in Iraq), fight those dirty terrorists and ensure American freedom, right? I mean, what country doesn't want the big guns coming in, tearing shit up, ruining their infrastructure, and then loaning them money to rebuild?

When this war started, I was of the opinion that the soldiers knew what they were doing when they joined the armed forces so people shouldn't be surprised that there's casualties. It's what happens when you're trained to kill. But now, I feel like they are just sitting ducks while Bush drives his war mantra home ("Bring them on!" comes to mind). I'm sure a majority of the soldiers are in the army/navy/marines because they were hoping for money to pay for school or take care of their families. They're not rich people by any means. You wouldn't see G.W. sending his drunken daughters to fight this war that he so staunchly believes is right. We're all just pawns in a game that is much, much huger than us. surreal

We're just hoping to transfer political control over to the Iraqis next July. American troops will be in Iraq for a very very long time, just like in Germnay, Japan, South Korea, and other countries the American Empire plundered for their resources and sweetheart deals to corporations. whatever

Accidents like the one over Mosul happen regularly to the military in peacetime, it's a hazardous business.

And the restoration of Iraq is going fairly well, much better than the media reports. Both al-Jazeera and American media distorts the situation of Iraq, and Iraqi citizens are aware of that. And they're angry about it. http://www.mrc.org/cyberalerts/2003/cyb20031114.asp#3

Did you forget Kuwait and Iran?

Thats funny, because I remember everyone here crying about how the Iraqi orchards where the surface to air missles were being hidden were getting cut down.

the kuwait issues a great deal more complex than just 'sadaam invaded', historically kuwait was part of the iraqi region and was only seperated by the british empire cutting up the region after defeating the ottomans.

as such they had a potential claim on it, one they felt was giving an american blessing.

as for iran, well considering just how much processed plutonium and uranium they have, i severly doubt they had much to fear from sadaam - in fact irans more in danger from isreal than that it would be a ba'ath-run iraq.

i don't think anyones sorry to sadaam gone, but the way US went about out was all wrong. its set a precedent that no one wants and was the start of the damned stupid neo-con empire building foolishness.

"no one" I hear that a lot around here when it relates to leftist and liberal ideas. I believe the translation is "no one I know" when in that context.
