WASHINGTON _ Ron Paul, the libertarian-leaning, Houston-area congressman who waged a feisty Republican primary campaign for president, is expected on Wednesday to urge supporters to reject the two major-party candidates and vote for any of the four minor-party contenders on the November ballot.
"The two parties and their candidates have no real disagreements on foreign policy, monetary policy, privacy issues, or the welfare state," Paul is expected to say at a news conference in Washington, according to an advance copy of his remarks obtained by the Houston Chronicle.

reference

Four minor party/ independent presidential candidates are expected to attend this news conference, these include Libertarian Party nominee Bob Barr, Green Party contender Cynthia McKinney, independent Ralph Nader or Constitution Party standard-bearer Chuck Baldwin.

Note that this is utterly unprecedented in recent American political history, and that the Republican Party tried to get Paul out of his congressional seat to no avail.

The Panda thinks that they may also announce debates where all candidates are invited.

Does that mean he's giving up?

It sounds like he's giving up.

I bet he's giving up.

Maybe that should be a hint to the 'loompas.

You might recall that Paul raised a hell of a lot of money in the primary and while he never won a primary, he did place and came in third several times. He also held a counter convention close to the Republican convention which sold out drawing over 10,000 attendees, which is also precedented in recent American political history.

Obviously a lot of people care.

Let me clarify, then ... if Paul endorses Nader, is Nader going to finish any higher than third?

My point was, if Paul isn't going to endorse either of the two men who actually have any hope of getting elected, then who the fuck cares who he endorses?

Because this may well end any chance McCain had of beating Obama, 1% here, 2% there, they add up, take a look at the polls, you can be absolutely sure that 1% is going to be more than the margin of victory in several states.

This year more of the dissatisfaction is on the Republican side than on the Democratic, so Barr and Baldwin are in a good position to appeal to conservatives who can't stand McCain, of which a lot exist, and small "l" libertarians which are both in the democratic and republican party, but more in the republican, who are sick of the spending horseshit and violation of civil liberties and to whom Obama is too much of a socialist, and smells too much like a professional Chicago dirty politician, in his waffling on issues. His gun control position changes would be a good example of his waffling, and waiting to see which way the wind blows.

Cheap Trick is a musical group that entertains people for a living.

Have you ever once been to a political convention?? Sitting in an auditorium listening to people speak on politics is not entertaining unless you are already fired up about it. Again, this is the first time I think in living memory that a counter convention by a primary presidential candidate was held, and they freaking sold out the venue, ,

Obviously a lot of people care and your denial of facts changes nothing.

With this endorsement and the Libertarians winning Texas by default, looks like they're a shoe-in this year!!

Seriously, though, I'm just glad he's not endorsing McCain.

So donate to Barr, he is popular in Georgia and stands a chance of making McCain spend a lot more money in that state to keep it in his camp.

I bet $10 for Barr will cost the McCain camp a lot more than $10.

BLITZER: So is it fair to say -- you're saying you want a third party candidate to win. Would that candidate be the man sitting next to you right here in THE SITUATION ROOM, Ralph Nader?

PAUL: No. Ralph is a good friend, but we agree on tactics and what we're doing -- we agree on these very important issues, but quite frankly, he probably wouldn't have joined my campaign and I probably won't join his.

BLITZER: So you won't vote for him?

PAUL: No, I don't plan to.

BLITZER: Who do you want to vote for?

PAUL: I plan to get as many votes for him as possible because it will take the votes away from Obama, and that is where we have the agreement.

BLITZER: So you want to stop Obama, is that what you're saying?

PAUL: Well, no. I want to change the system.
