.....but what? they fucking tested this on DOGS to figure
this out?? mad mad mad
fucking assholes.. aren't there enough HUMANS around that would
participate in this experiment merely for the free beer?

"In order to prove that flavonoids add anything to the alcohol benefit, human studies are needed."
yeah, no shit.. isn't that usually the way it works? god..

As I've said before...real beer is opaque...and now I have medical science to back up my "drink dark beer" argument smile

I doubt most beer drinkers really give more consideration to their health than simply ordering the diet soda w/ their big mac..

Of course there are people around who are willing to drink beer for studies, but have you ever tried to set up a clinical trial with human subjects? It's considerably more difficult than getting permission for animal subjects and usually requires evidence of the safeness of the procedure from a previous (e.g. animal) trial. Something tells me you don't really know what you're talking about here.

Something tells me you don't really know what you're talking about here.

something tells me you're missing the point...

1) it's wrong to force dogs to drink beer
2) do we really need to spend money to do a study like this?
3) dogs aren't people. nor are rabbits people. using rabbits or dogs or monkeys instead of people simply to avoid some paperwork ... yeah that's really scientific. did you know that sheep can eat arsenic and guinea pigs can eat strychnine? boy, i'd feel bad for the people that participated in the study that was done based on the "evidence of the safeness of the procedure from a previous (e.g. animal) trial"!

oh and yeah.. you're right.. it could be a very risky procedure, experimenting with beer and people.. not many people have tried drinking beer before.. it would be really hard to convince them to do it.. who can tell what could go wrong!

yeah..i think soda is rather evil. okay, i do drink beer. i guess because even vegans need to have a little bit of fun sometimes. and i bet you could probably make the claim that soda is worse for you than beer anyway! heh. but then someone would probably want to do a study on it involving bats or kangaroos or something.

(thanks cherie!)

It mentioned the dogs had hardening of the arteries - "A similar human problem" - Yes, it is alcohol abuse! - The lovely hoppy, creamy ales are full of nutritious goodness.....Europeans also live longer because of their wine consumption - it helps the heart..... love

This comment actually mildly offended me.. but the humor is not lost, so I won't go into pointless debate. When you say 'most' beer drinkers, you are including the mass population that swills keystone light and (dare I say) PBR, while licking the cheese out of an empty cheetos bag or wiping brat grease on their jeans... but I have known plenty of tea-totallers that treat their bodies like a fairground dumpster as well.

I agree with Lorelei that this was a waste of a money to test on dogs, but it's not like dogs don't like the taste of beer... and i doubt they were applying frat-hazing levels of dark beer on the pooches.

and now for something completely different... did you guys know that the end of nomadic life and the beginning of settled civilization is linked to the fermentation of grains? and what else happened at about the same time? the domestication of the Saluki.. and what does this mean? actually I have no idea..

beer and dogs something something... CASE CLOSED!

yea.. I'm not saying people who don't drink beer are naturally alot healthier, or practitioners of a a supremely healthy lifestyle.. I was just saying that as a general rule I tend to think that beer drinkers , from my own personal experience, aren't exactly making health their #1 priority.

with that said.. I would like to end with this toothpastefordinner comic, which is completely irrelevant, but still funny.

uhm, to soul_survivor:
dogs may like the taste of beer... but that is not an acceptable justification. they also like the taste of chocolate bars, but...
also, from what i've read about animal experiments they usually involve applying a really really really high dosage that would never be used in such an amount by a human.... unless they were trying to commit suicide... and i think they would have to give the dogs a large amount in order to see any kind of effect on how their blood clots.

you're missing the point, we need to test the effects of chocolate on dogs.
that shit is dangerous.

Sure. It increases our knowledge base in an interesting way. It may contibute to something more important down the road.

All three of my dogs love beer, and the bitch's mutt loves Cognac also.

But... I really don't care for a good deal of the animal testing that goes on.
