check out this awesome McCain interview with TIME

Excerpts:

There's a theme that recurs in your books and your speeches, both about putting country first but also about honor. I wonder if you could define honor for us?

Read it in my books.

I've read your books.

No, I'm not going to define it.

But honor in politics?

I defined it in five books. Read my books.

What a charmer! I definitely want him talking to the leaders of China, N. Korea, Iran et al!

Hm.

So, is it that he can't actually define it?

Or perhaps that he can't remember what he wrote?

Or maybe he's done something which isn't consistent with it?

Or maybe W has done something which isn't consistent with "honor in politics", so JMc feels vulnerable to pointed questions...

Or - o horrors! - he didn't write the books at all...

I would have liked it if McCain had answered "I don't recall" better.

Read the rest of the interview. He was just being belligerent, to friendly reporters following his campaign who he invited to interview him.

no, of course he can't define honor. the man's a fucking traitor who does nothing but tout his POW past, even though he spent his time in captivity putting himself first, before his country.

Fair call. I snarked, and I shouldn't have.

He doesn't come across as a happy man, does he?

Don't you think you're being a little harsh on him? I mean, he needs the cash from selling those books. Upkeep on 7 (or is it 10?) houses is fucking expensive. Every average American knows that. If he actually answered those questions, he couldn't cash in. I mean, you gotta make at least $5 mil a year just to get by, right?

It's as if he's memorized the script and recites it by rote. Apparently they kept his lines short so he could remember them.

I miss the McCain that was not an ass-kissing Bush apologist and actually stood for and believed in being right (correct) than popular with his fellow politicians. The current version of McCain is a dick.

A recent article by an Arizona journalist suggested that he's always been a dick, and we've just been blind to it because his rhetoric appealed to us.

Maybe we just have to wait for the 2.0.1 update to fix all the bugs.

It worked for Vista, didn't it?

Oh, yeah. It didn't.

You're gonna need to provide an unbiased source for the assertion about his time in captivity. In any case, I'd say that self-preservation is a priority when you're a POW and your comments are a cheap shot.

I get it. You don't like the guy. But he did serve his country and deserves a measure of respect of that, even if he's not president material.

From the article...

As far as my not knowing Senator McCain in prison, what Orsen Swindle says is absolutely true. I was in Cambodia...

That guy admits that he didn't know McCain in prison. He wasn't there. Therefore his opinion of McCain is about as relevant as the Swiftboat Veterans' opinion of John Kerry.

Thankfully, you probably won't see any TV ads attacking McCain's service. I doubt Obama would approve of shit like that.

You're right. Nobody in the campaign is going to take those shots. In every speech, as soon as they mention McCain, they praise his service. Then they attack where it counts: voting record, weak economics, poor political choices, etc.
