Ever since the editor in chief of The Onion Rob Siegel has left and someone newer took over. this happened abotu 6 weeks ago i think the onion has defintiely changed
My dad maintains that it was funnier over a year ago and that the problem started back then.
I think the humor has gotten a tad more obvious....but....if what Anders says is true, maybe the new guy just needs to get the hang of things, settle into his job...?
Man, people are starting to get a little itchy with their "jump the shark" trigger finger. Do you know how hard it is to be 100% hilarious every fucking week? Do you?! I give them a hilarity curve just out of respect and common sense. They still have a ways to go before they truly whip out the dirt bikes, ramps, and salt water tanks.

Word- being consistently funny is tough. More people need to realize that before they start looking for the motherfucking Fonz.
It's always been hit or miss. Sometimes an entire issue is funny. Sometimes only one or two bits. I don't think it's changed at all.
Like Saturday Night Live. Many people say it was much funnier in the 70's. That's because all you see anymore are the good skits. If you watch a few old episodes in their entirety, you'll find that it was just as hit or miss back then as it is now.

It feels like it's been on a decline, beyond this one bit. People were defending The Simpsons wholesale right up until the evil jockeys.

The evil jockeys were hilarious, are you crazy. ANd that was based in fact. Jockers are EVIL and definatly not human
I think it is pretty consistent with how the Onion has been for me over the last 2 years. That's when I moved to Boulder where you can pick up a copy on the street. I read it almost every week. Every week there are things in it that bore me. But every week there things that I find hilarious.

What are these "evil jockeys" you speak of? I quit watching that shitty show years ago! Seriously though, I don't think they've changed much. It probably has more to do with you getting tired of the same style of humor. I completely agree that The Simpsons fell hard, in fact I felt like I was one of the first to think this. It's usually a case of the old guard getting tired of making unappreciative fans laugh, followed by a new crew that are too over the top in trying to make things like they use to be. I just don't agree that this has happened to The Onion yet.
THe Modern Humorist was pretty awesome back when they were posting material regular (the holy tango of poetry anyone?) I used to always look forward to the Brunching Shuttlecocks' Self Made Critic back in the day, too.
While I have noticed a change in the past few weeks, it is totaly explained by the fact that they are under new management. This is just a period of transition. We all remember when the Daily Show swtiched from Killboring to John (My Personal Hero) Stewart. There was a period of transition that it took the show a while to recover from, but the show eventually became funnier than ever.
Personally, I think the magazine is doing fine. I think this article is the funniest thing they've had in a while.

I think it was less than a year ago that the Chinese media picked up the Onion article "Congress Threatens To Leave D.C. Unless New Capitol Is Built " and touted it as a factual example of crazy Westerners and their unreasonable policymakers.
