Outspoken star Susan Sarandon has launched a scathing attack on America's former first lady Hillary Clinton, insisting she feels nothing but contempt for the senator. The Thelma And Louise actress has slammed Clinton's political performance - claiming she "blew" her chance of success - and is convinced the only reason she'll go down in history is for supporting her adulterous husband, former American President Bill Clinton. She spits, "Hate her! The only thing she's going to be remembered for is standing by her man, and that is really sad. She had a shot, and she really blew it. She turned out to be just another politician, which was really disappointing. I also think she lost a lot of support. I know a lot of people who write very large checks who have told her, 'That's it for us, don't come back.'"

Kind of reminds me of when Clinton left office, he pardoned people just because they had the money to pay his brother Roger and brother-in-law Hugh. Some columnists who had defended Clinton through thick and thin all of a sudden started saying "God, this is unbelievably slimy. Could the Republicans have been right about Clinton? Were we that dumb not to see it?"

Wake the fuck up. Clinton only cared about himself and his party, and never took any risks unless it meant getting laid. Hillary is cold, unprincipled and power-hungry bitch. If Susan Sarandon is just realizing this now...... shocked

I usually check on Susan Sarandon's position on an issue before deciding where I stand. I think she is very representative of the washed-up, has-been, 50+ movie actress demographic that is so key to American politics.

i find it interesting that hexe and souljacker feel that susan sarandon should shut her mouth instead of voicing an opinion.

all of us voice our opinions into the void (or at our surrounding humans) all the time, and the only difference here is that a reporter probably asked her opinion, and then published it.

my question is, should susan sarandon refrain from voicing her opinion because she is an actress, because she is over 50 years old, because she is, in the eyes of some of our less gracious members, "washed up?" what has that got to do with her ability to have an informed opinion?

In office is one thing. Hell many have been into or gone into politics. It's when they just whine and don't actively try to change things that twist my nads. and not in the fun way.

I think the problem is that people ( mostly sheep) feel that her opinion has weight over others because she's got some level of fame, and that given media attention celebs can get for free while the rest of us have to get on a talk show or committ a crime or be a victim of one to get the same amount of treatment our voices aren't heard as readily. I doubt there'd be so much outcry about her using her advantage if we had more intelligent people on the planet that could distinguish between personal opinion and expert or informed opinion. Not that her's may not be informed, just that, well this was obviously a personal opinion.

*edited for clarification*

By "mostly sheep" I refer to that type of person not refering to all people as being mostly sheep.

her statement doesn't seem like whining to me. she is stating her opinion, not asking for anything or complaining. and i am interested to know what you do to "actively try to change things" that susan sarandon doesn't do. it seems she puts a lot of time and money behind her "whines."

i don't necessarily agree with whatever she says but i do think that attacking her for stating an opinion while being an actress, 50 years old, whatever, is pretty disgusting. it also seems that when a male actor issues a similar kind of statement, he is at least attacked over his ideas and not his age.

Well I doubt she would be able to change the person Hillary is. So her comments are little more than whining about her really.

I do a lot of things that Susan does and maybe some she doesn't. But the point is, in this case, there can be no active change made as she cannot force behavior onto Hillary, so she merely has the chance to complain, accomplish nothing and as such, to me, whine.

A side point to this is her ability to appear to have a louder or bigger voice in matters than those of us that don't get a chance to say what's on our mind to the media because they're following us around waiting for us to do or say something. But that's something more born out of jealousy and a sense of unfairness in our voice not being heard as well as some others.

It's not that I don't think she should be able to voice her opinion...I'm just tired of these high and mighty celebrities with this mentality that because they're in the public eye from doing movies, and because they make millions of dollars that their opinions are the most important in the country. It's just how it comes off to me, like the common man's voice doesn't matter anymore. Eh, whatever... confused

It's funny in a way. People say they are tired of hearing Susan in a thread where Susan said something nasty about Hillary and somehow it turns into a partisan thing with the republicans doing the complaining and in a sense defending Hillary from Susan's remarks, instead of just being personal opinion about Susan. shocked

I know I asked if liberals would boycott but that was a historical reference, if you consider a few months ago history

I did. and then I added the sheep factor of people. Right now Susan would probably have a better chance of winning the popular vote in this country because of those sheep that trust the media and anyone on the tube at the time.

Olivia, I think you have misinterpreted my comment. I don't want Susan Sarandon to "shut her mouth," as you have so eloquently phrased it. I actually find it rather entertaining to listen to the political pronouncements of a coddled, insulated Hollywood star who seems to think her roles in bad movies qualify her as a pundit. I was merely commenting on the absolute absurdity of anyone taking her comments seriously. I think everybody ought to be free to engage in whatever form of political speech they choose. That's what makes this country great. However, I am also free to ridicule the preposterous statements of deluded former movie stars that are reported in the media as if they mean something.

Do you guys have any idea how rich and insulated most politicians are? Or the pundits you may agree with? Did you think that maybe she's from a modest backgound and has worked her ass off to get to where she is? Whereas someone like George W. Bush (for the sake of example) has never woked a day in his life.

Did she ever proclaim to be the absolute authority on the subject of politics? Or did she just happen to give her response to a question which was then taken completely out of context?

I agree with your point Souljacker that it is absurd that anyone would take her comments too seriously based soley on being a movie star. But that goes for her critics as well as her fans. Just because someone is an actor for a living doesn't mean they're not intelligent nor unable to sucessfully and correctly anaylize politics and politicians.

Though, admittedly, they're usually not.

I love the whole "she's an actress - what could she possibly know about politics" argument.

I'm a much bigger fan of "{insetr name here} is a member of a erotica/porn site - what could he/she possibly know about politics." stereotype.

I never liked Hillary Clinton. I think she set feminism back 20 years when she didn't leave her cheating, intern 'not having sex' with lying husband.
