Just came across this on StumbleUpon. Anyone hear of this in the national media?

It sounds right . . . but as they said, they need funding for clinical trials.

That looks like good news to me. Clinical trials are expensive, but not as expensive as the damage caused by HIV.

Also, perhaps I'm cynical, but I have my doubts whether conservatives will let this go ahead. Because

[this] idea could be used to control the disease for people who already have it and prevent infection for those at risk.

Nothing on the BBC yet - though this is definitely good news, not least because

[t]he new law also drops requirements for one-third of Aids funds to be spent promoting abstinence.

The under-one's-breath perspective among conservatives I work with on this is that it will only mean that "fags will be more prolific." surreal

I've never understood why it takes so long to approve treatments for 100% TERMINAL ALWAYS FATAL ILLNESSES. It's like, "Oh yeah, AIDS is going to kill you, but we wouldn't want you to DIE or anything..." I know, I know, "First, do no harm" and all that, but I'd say having a 100% fatal disease is already pretty much as "harmed" as you can get. Fuck, if I had AIDS and some guy in a white labcoat told me pouring bleach in my veins might cure me, I'd be at the grocery store buying Clorox within the hour.

Anybody remember that psycho chick on here who would always pop up every time there was an AIDS thread to rant on her belief in the "HIV does not cause AIDS" conspiracy theory? Whatever happened to her?

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

...probably died of AIDS. shocked
