"Bearded savages?"

Can you say governmental "pro-pa-gan-da?"

Pardon my ignorance but I'm in the UK and the whole story never really got great exposure here, but how much of what has been published is actually true? I read someplace that the whole "rescue" story and her "heroism" was a bit over-described to make it seem much more gritty and provoke more of an emotional response.

I could be wrong here.

Can you say "subhuman life forms who deserve mass extermination for the good of humanity"?

Why in the hell does it matter whether or not this girl was raped, shot, tortured, or whatever?

No matter what she went through, it was most likely a hell that none of us could even imagine ... but some people feel the need to make light of the "propaganda".

Shouldn't the main point simply be that she's alive, home, and relatively healthy?

Ummm, the Iraquis are the mustachioed savages. Its the Afghans who are the bearded savages.

Incidentally, you might want to consider whether an account written by a proven liar that includes detals that no one could possibly know just because theyre lurid might not be the most, er, honest retelling.

What this aricle actually says is that MSNBC heard that the Daily News heard, that a fired plagiarist read in some unamed account in some medical record at some time indicated that she was sexually assaulted somehow.

From this we somehow get idle musing as to whether she was raped then beaten or vice versa, despite not being a whole hell of a lot of evidence of either. William Randolph Hearst, we hardly knew ye.

If she chose to remain a private person and live her life, absolutely. If she wants to pimp her experience in a sleazy tell-all, sorry but its open season.

I'm sure the survivors in My Lai have a rosy view of Americans, too.

Atrocities happen in war. If every country was wiped out when an atrocity was committed by soldiers fighting for them, every country in the world would now be empty. Including this one.

Yeah, I'm sure American soldiers have never raped anyone. whatever

The most horrifying aspect of this entire thing is that a West Virginia hillbilly got a million bucks for a book deal.

Isn't it time for you to go listen to your hate radio programs now?

So support the troops, but when they go through hell and make it back home and try to tell their story they're "pimping their experience" and it's "open season".

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. whatever

I'm quite sure that she would like nothing better than to fade into anonymity but the media and the public demand make that all but impossible. If she can tell her story through this book, and make a decent sum of money in the process perhaps that will help her get to the point where she can once again be just a citizen.

Again, none of this should diminish her experience as a POW ... no matter what that experience may have been.

Have a little freaking compassion, people.

I don't want ANYONE to get raped.....EVER.

I think the ambivalence come from the fact that she was turned into a pre-packaged hero.

Feminism be damned, but this is EXACTLY the reason that women should not be in combat.
