But little is known about the civilization that built the immense city, with its ceremonial architecture and geometric temples, and then torched and abandoned it around 700 AD..."We want to find out why the Teotihuacan people sealed it and when," he said.
Maybe there's a reason they sealed the cave and burned the city.
Researchers are opening a cave sealed for more than 30 years
Wow... 30 years, eh? They're probably gonna open it up and find a ticket stub from a Mexico City showing of Star Wars left there by some geeky archaeologist when they sealed it up the last time. Spooooooooooky.
Sarabia said the tunnel was first discovered in the early 1970s but it was closed soon afterward, and most of the information about it was lost when the archeologist who found it died.
anybody willing to donate to my PayPal account so that i and my adventuring party can travel to delve this lost dungeon?
so far i've got a barbarian, two clerics (one of which has an adept for a cohort), a bard, and a rogue (myself). i also potentially have a fighter i could get to join, though that's iffy. we're also looking for an arcane caster, as my Use Magical Device only goes so far. we can hire guides, but a first-class ranger would also be nice.

i am both hoping for and affeared that it might be a shogoth, also.
Actually the city existed long before there were Aztecs. The Aztecs believed it was the site where a god tore out his heart to relite the sun. Which led to the gory sacrifices that so horrified the spanish.(they didnt want the sun to go out)

Yea the reason is simple. It's called social revolt!
The prominent theory is that the society rose up, killed the leaders, and torched the cities.

"as it is"? are you questioning the veracity of HP Lovecraft's famous xenozoological articles?
No, actually, as someone who majored in archeology in college, specifically that of Mesoamerica, and worked at a pristine site; I find the reopening a lot more interesting than any of your fantastical nerdship. Sorry.
