They want to build this in Dubai? Isn't that where they built fake islands? I don't think that would be a stable enough foundation for such a thing.

This is like my absolute worst nightmare. I have these horrible dreams that I'm in a tall building and they start twisting and turning. It's just horrible.

bet that novelty wears off fast as hell. bet the residents decide to just park the thing within the first five years.

maybe I'm just annoyed by what looks like an architect getting the glory for an unprecedented feat of engineering.

Or maybe a lot of people just get nauseated.

They're building a bunch of stuff there. The World, which is a series of man-made islands with personal homes on them ,destroyed fish and wildlife areas, and numerous other things that are disastrous to nature. On top of other basic labor laws that they have broken.

The U.S. isn't exactly

the idea behind it is that once their oil supply runs out, they will be a tourist attraction, being a little more tolerant than other middle-east nations.

I think it was one of Zoetica's friends that got arrested and detained because Dubai customs found a tiny piece of marijuana on the bottom of his shoe, like he had stepped on it and it stuck to his shoe, they have zero tolerance for drugs, he was detained and it took some doing to get him out.

Their oil revenue accounts for 5.1% of the UAE's GDP.

So what exactly is your point?

This seems a silly idea to me, since tourism relies on cheap travel.

Why not? Lower Manhattan is, and below sea level too I believe.

And price wise surreal a modest 2,500 sq ft place would cost $7.5 mill
I also would have oil stains on my floor. biggrin

I can see some sort of scary, sci-fi scenario where the machinery/computer goes haywire, or else something straight out of Die Hard.

M hmm. I'm going to predict that within ten years they stop the rotation, because they can't afford the energy bills.

Um, did you listen to the video? At least one of the designs incorporated wind turbines, and was expected to generate ALL it's own power.
