Norway has joined the ranks of countries who realize every adult should have the right to marry any other adult who is agreeable to the contract.

Gay couples in Norway will be granted the same rights as heterosexuals to marry, adopt and undergo artificial insemination under a new equality law passed Tuesday.

Go Norway, go Norway!

The law replaces 1993 legislation that gave gays the right to enter civil unions similar to marriage but did not allow church weddings or adoption.

See, there is a difference between marriage and civil unions. I'm not sure what it is, but there is a difference.

Opponents, including the Christian Democrats and the Party of Progress, argued that children need both a mother and a father in a traditional family; opposed assisted pregnancy for lesbians, and said the law was rushed through the legislature.

Which, once again, ignores how single and widowed parents are considered fully capable of raising children, but somehow two loving parents who happen to be the same gender are not. Geniuses.

The law gives individual congregations and clergy the right but not the legal obligation to perform wedding ceremonies for gay couples.

Wow, something that actually makes sense! Remember kids, just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean you HAVE TO if you don't want to.

Not to go off topic on my own thread, but . . .

The last quote I put up there makes me think so much about the abortion debate. The anti-choice crowd seems to think that legal abortions somehow equal mandatory abortions, where they don't see that pro-choice also means the choice not to have one.

indeed it does. just like i have the freedom (being over 21) to drink liquor. i don't have to (and didn't until about a year and a half ago), but the option is there. many, many people choose not to.

It's the same mind-set. "The law for everyone should follow what I believe based on my religion."

There's a Northern European quasi-socialist country that didn't have gay marriage until just now? I am shocked!

They had civil unions. This gives them more rights.

every time i read something like this:

I cringe. Evidently according to these people, as a single heterosexual father, i am incapable of raising my daughter, like she is going to end up on a clock tower with a high powered rifle because she doesn't have a mother. I am very cautious about who and who doesn't meet my daughter, i don't want failed relationships on my part to equal people walking in and out of her life.

And Bean thank you for that Video, i now have to go post it on about ten other forums i belong to.

I can't wait until Washington joins the conga line.

My moms are "married" here, but it would be so awesome to see it recognized.

Wait . . . you mean you are a child of a lesbian couple? And you haven't gone insane/started worshiping the devil/become a social deviant? That can't be right shocked tongue

Yep, that's right!

And even more than just being raised by lesbians, there was a drag queen living in our basement, and my mother's first long term relationship ended mostly because her partner became a man.

That's right folks! Lesbians, drag queens and FTM's. And I still went to college on a full academic scholarship.

Suck it conservatives! hahahaha!

How DARE you become a successful, confident, well rounded contributer to society!!! Don't you know you are supposed to be a pariah? Stop being successful and go get an addiction to something, or you'll be hauled before the conservative court for non-fulfillment of false cliche!
