According to the SCOTUS, terrorist suspects being held at Guantanamo can challenge their detention in U.S. civilian court.

Sorry to tell you, Bush, but there are rules, and they do apply to everybody.

I love the headline 'High court sides with Guantanamo detainees again'.

Say it out loud, the again sounds like just one long sigh.

How many times does a court have to tell Bush he's wrong before he gets it? It's becoming like a lightbulb joke involving Polish people or blonds...

Ahhhh, Kennedy. Sometimes I could just kiss you. Just sometimes, though.

Pay attention "third-party" "voters" and other assorted nitwits: This (like every single important case of the past two years) was a 5-4 decision. If you care about reproductive rights, the environment, or the right of habeas corpus, vote Obama. We're going to lose one or possibly two "liberal" justices within the next four years. A McCain presidency will change all of this.

Obviously, the right hasn't put enough of their own people on the Court yet. If they're lucky, maybe Stevens and Souter will die before January and Bush can appoint Crystal and Coulter. Then we'll finally see SCOTUS make the proper whore-to-power decisions that the right's handlers and funders crave.

Please, please win in November, Senator Obama.

The latest poll from Washington has Obama favored by 18% of Republicans, up from 11% a month ago. Not only is it not too much to expect, but it's looking like it might be fairly common.

The GOP leadership never wanted McCain to win.

Bush suggested new legislation may now be needed to keep the American people safe.

Please, for the love of God everyone spread this around as much as possible. In the last couple weeks or so, I have run into otherwise intelligent individuals who all the sudden feel the need to vote Libertarian. The Supreme Court while often overlooked is a very important component of our government. I almost feel retarded saying that, but it's true and we seem to forget it.

And you don't have to look too far back to see what happens when you elect a Republican president with two vacant seats.

Today's Supreme Court decision ensures that we can protect our nation and bring terrorists to justice, while also protecting our core values. The Court's decision is a rejection of the Bush Administration's attempt to create a legal black hole at Guantanamo - yet another failed policy supported by John McCain. This is an important step toward reestablishing our credibility as a nation committed to the rule of law, and rejecting a false choice between fighting terrorism and respecting habeas corpus. Our courts have employed habeas corpus with rigor and fairness for more than two centuries, and we must continue to do so as we defend the freedom that violent extremists seek to destroy. We cannot afford to lose any more valuable time in the fight against terrorism to a dangerously flawed legal approach. I voted against the Military Commissions Act because its sloppiness would inevitably lead to the Court, once again, rejecting the Administration's extreme legal position. The fact is, this Administration's position is not tough on terrorism, and it undermines the very values that we are fighting to defend. Bringing these detainees to justice is too important for us to rely on a flawed system that has failed to convict anyone of a terrorist act since the 9-11 attacks, and compromised our core values.

He's taking the issue head-on. Good for him.

Obama (or, more likely, one of his staffers) just sent out a twitter about how happy he was about the decision. surreal

Meanwhile, John McCain says he's computer illiterate.

Actually Ron Paul supports this decision (although he thinks it would be better to shut down Guantanamo Bay all together).

Oh, does he? Ok then, we'll just forget that he's anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage, dismisses the theory of evolution, and would vote against the Civil Rights act.

Yeah, that's just the guy I want appointing Supreme Court justices.
