Impeachment is fine and I have nothing against it but I hope if he does get impeached he isn't removed from office. This close to the end of his term and a new person taking over it seems like having him removed from office wont change any thing except cause more confusion (and do you really want Cheney to run the show for the last year).

The only way I can see this working is as a distraction that would keep Bush too busy to start a 3rd war.

I agree with that, but I'd also like to see Bush formally held accountable for his actions in office, at least three of which (the release of classified information for political gain, violations of the Geneva convention, and his policies regarding executive privilege, not even counting anything related to the Iraq War) are each, even alone, grievous and damaging enough to the country and to the office of the President for impeachment.

I don't think getting him out of office is really an issue at this point, but getting his transgressions recorded as a matter of fact in the public record would be a great way to start undoing the damage he's done.

she was what he brought to the table in the race for the White House.

Dick Cheney is really a better target.

I'm waiting for McClellan's testimony. I want to see how much it makes Rove and Cheney squirm.

Priceless. biggrin

Agreed. Who knows what other egregious violations may have taken place (we may only be looking at the tip of the iceberg). Over the next 25 years, we'll probably learn about even more corruption and criminality. Bush should be remembered for what he is, the worst president in history of the U.S. (arguably, there may have been others just as inept, however, no one else seems quite as adept at fucking everything up). Like when Kucinich formerly filed articles of impeachment against Dick Cheney, I'm afraid it won't get very far (HR 333/799 currently only has 26 signatories). Still, I applaud Kucinich for doing the right thing.

I don't know about that, McClellan may have a change of heart and suddenly find "suicide" much more preferable to testifying. He'd better have some damn good protection for him, I'd like to hear what he has to say too.

McClellan may also be prevented from testifying through legal tactics by the White House. Which would be kind of hilariously sad.

because they're politicians?

politicians sail the seas of public opinion on lobbyist vessels, trying to fill their sails with the winds of polling.

There are several, but it's mainly politics. Bush is politically neutered right now, and there's no guarantee that articles of impeachment would stick. If they don't, then they'd waste all that time, energy and political capital doing something (getting Bush out of office) that will likely be done by the passage of time in a few short months. On top of that, Bush still being in office allows campaigning Dems to tie the people they're running against to W. Which is, you know, good for Democrats.

On top of THAT, it would be pretty pointless because if we impeached Bush we'd end up with Cheney. Back where we started, if you will.

Sorta. That really depends on whether the momentum (and testimony) that would come out of a Bush impeachment would be enough to get the ball rolling on Kucinich's move to impeach Cheney. Not likely though, since it's stuck in the judicial committee.

I don't think they would be able to fully complete an impeachment in 8 months.
