Whoohoo! Go Gavin! Go SF! Go gays!

All the marriages that occurred in SF will not be annulled and the path has been paved for CA to the become the second state to allow same sex marriages!

Here's the opinion.

Haven't read it yet, but from what I understand it establishes that under the equal protection clause of the CA Constitution, statutes that appear to discriminate against people for their sexual orientation will now be reviewed under strict scrutiny. The shorthand of that is that discrimination against gays will now be treated just like discrimination against women or people of color.

This is good. It will be even better when a mixed race, transgendered gay couple, who already have children, get married on the steps of the state capital building in Mississippi.

On the local news, I saw that there were a bunch of people waiting for the decision on the courthouse steps. Then, upon hearing the opinion, they got out their cell phones and asked their partners to marry them "all over again" while weeping joyfully.

I will never understand how someone could look at scenes like that and argue against gay marriage. It must take a special kind of heartlessness that I just can't relate to.
