The BNP are the ones that are pretty much racist Nazis, right?

Yes.

69,000 does sound alarming. But it's less than 1% of the city's population. I bet the turnout for BNP is high too - I tend to think of sociopaths as being highly motivated, anyway.

Well, no matter how you slice the numbers, that's a lot of confirmed bigots.

69,000 got them a seat on the London Assembly (out of 25 seats).

Ithink Boris' election proves the overwhelming majority in favour of comedy voting in England. I mean, Boris is funny, right?

How does it prove that? For a start, England didn't vote for him.

whatever It wasn't meant to be a serious observation. You're suggesting 1,168,738 Londoners reckoned Boris to be the best political option as opposed to a bit of entertainment?!

Yep, the gains made by the BNP in the local elections are also scary, though not as scary as they could've been. It does reflect what seems to be a general and unpleasant rise in xenophobia that is sweeping the UK at moment.

I don't like it one bit.

I'd hope not. But I'd also hope they took it more seriously than voting for someone because he's "funny".

Ditto but I find it hard to believe that all those people genuinely voted because they truly felt 'Bonking Boris' was a competent candidate, and I think the fact he did win (and with only a 2 million turn out) demonstrates a more flippant approach to voting, which I was alluding to sarcastically when I said he's 'funny, right?'. Sheesh, flag waving piccaninnies and bus wars!

No, I doubt all those people thought he was the right person for the job (although some of them must have; he's won two elections as an MP, so presumably some people think he's doing something right)... I'd guess that a lot of people who voted him voted for the guy (as they saw it) with the best chance of beating Livingstone.

Apparently, he was born in New York... if he'd stayed, I believe he could have run for President. Imagine that.

Okay, so I went to the generator thing and this one just cracked me up.

My understanding of London's needs are, I love tennis with a passion. I challenged Boris Becker to a match once and he said he was up for it but he never called back. I bet I could make him run around. He will probably have a couple of black eyes and a... cracked rib or something like that I don't see why people are so snooty about Channel 5.

I felt like I could have been reading a line from Anchorman.

Hahah, I love how he describes the Tories as 'the funkiest, most jiving party on earth'! He's so down with the kids.
Hopefully he will continue to delight us with joys such as ;

'There is absolutely no one, apart from yourself, who can prevent you, in the middle of the night, from sneaking down to tidy up the edges of that hunk of cheese at the back of the fridge.'

Indeed Boris, Indeed!

Inverted pyramids of piffle for London!!

It's the usual bullshit from the press: Vote for anything, so long as it's Tory. That's their underlying logic, and has been for my entire voting life.

Gosh, America could have wound up with a blond comedy President. That would have been a Bad Thing, to be sure. But Boris is probably actually less right-wing than W, so it might have worked out OK.

I would much rather have a comedian who did nothing, than a serious-minded activist in the White House.

But in this case, the comedian actually seems to mean business.
