The sickness that comes from teens online continues to grow. First, there was the story of the girl who committed suicide because of a fake friend on Myspace. Then came the news of idiots getting high on Youtube videos.

Today comes news of a 16 year old girl who's friends invited her over for a sleepover, then beat the holy fuck out of her for the sole purpose of posting on Youtube.

There were 8 arrests, but the girls who did the attack are showing no remorse. They don't care. They were cheering the beaters on, yelling about how they were going to be famous. The girls who did the beating claim it is over some comments the victim made on Myspace. When they were arrested, one of the girls asked if she would be able to go to cheer practice the next day. Some of the others joked about being in jail over spring break.

These kids are everywhere. They don't care who they hurt, are selfish, and are sick. They all come from middle-to-upper class suburban homes, have their cell-phones and cars paid for by daddy. They're cheerleaders, popular kids, have the best of everything. Then they get bored and do something hellish.

Sickening. Just fucking sickening.

not sure what's up with "They're cheerleaders, popular kids, have the best of everything. Then they get bored and do something hellish." are you actually a guy in his 20's or 30's jealous of 14 year old girls????

being a 14 year old girl sucks ass. i watched the video and it reminded me of the drama of being 14. you don't know what's going through these girl's minds...but you certainly can't relate.

i hope they get raped by the system. give them everything that can be thrown on for charges and for sentences. "throw the book at them," all the books at them. we should set an example to say that this is not tolerable in a properly functioning society.

that right there is what should have been said.

Children are children and should be treated as such. Obviously, beating people up is wrong...but do you really think that by sentencing these kids like adults we're going to stop kids from wailing on each other?

I know that wise older folk like to look at these stories of "OMG!! Whats wrong with the youth of america?" and gnash our teeth and jump to a default setting of extreme outrage, but lets relax just a little bit, ok?

no shit. watch the video. this stuff happened at almost every slumber party i went to at this age, minus the concussion. most of it was just mental abuse from one group of girls to the other. the difference is the video taped it. showing how young and naive they are.

i remember when a couple girls got into a fight when i was in high school the school had a meeting with their parents. no lawsuit, no wishes of rape.

The AP story linked to in this thread did originally include

"When we had them in custody at the station, they were laughing about it, saying, 'Well, I guess this spring break we won't go to the beach," Judd told The Early Show. "One of the suspects asked the detective, 'Am I going to get to go to cheerleading practice tomorrow?"

which I can only believe was coyotemike source for some of the girls to be cheerleaders.

The proper punishment would be for the girls to be put into stocks in the middle of town and allow people to throw rotten fruit and eggs at them for a day. See how fucking cool they think they are tomorrow.

where did i say sentence them as adults? i'm saying that they should be charged with as much as possible. if that nets them time in juvie, that's good enough for me. i just don't want them to get a little slap on the wrist and have mommy and daddy pay a fine for them and let them bask in all this attention. or have this settled with lawsuits.

Which would mean that they'd be tried as adults. "Raped by the system" and Charged with "as much as possible" doesn't sound like time in juvie to me, but if that's what you meant, then fine. I'm not sure this crime (as bad as it is) is as terrible as everyone is trying to make it out to be. It sounds like the latest in a series of "These kids today are the worst!" media stories. soon they'll give us the monthly "won't someone think of the children!" story and we'll forget about this one. It'll be ignored when the real facts come out.

What's wrong with kids these days? Back when I was growing up, we used to beat people up just for the fun of it--not to be "famous" on the "internet."

some places only allow for time in juvie. others, more.

negative actions should have negative consequences, not 15 minutes of fame.

excuse me?

between the ages of 11-15 or so i went to a million slumber parties and sleepovers. we very often ganged up on one girl or another for various reasons and were cruel and mean. maybe it was just "pretending to be her friend" or lying to her about a guy liking her or doing mean shit to her when she was sleeping, but it was coming from a similar nature.

"popular" girls could be the worst.

sometimes it even got a little physical.

why is this a stupid statement?

I'd agree with you to a point, but in the adult criminal justice system the charges of battery, false imprisonment, and kidnapping carry some pretty heavy time in most places.
A little excessive for any unarmed highschool cheerleader mob beatdown, don't you think ?

Yeah, the primary concern should be making sure these girls never act this way again, not doling out harsh punishments that will likely turn them into bigger sociopaths.

Counseling and community service might not quench your thirst for revenge, but it'll likely serve the ostensible ends of the justice system, which are rehabilitation and a safer population, far better.
