(CNN) -- One of the tigers in Siegfried & Roy's Las Vegas show bit Roy Horn in the neck Friday night, seriously injuring him, according to a spokesman for MGM Mirage.
Emergency officials treated Horn at the Mirage Hotel-Casino around 8:20 p.m. (10:20 p.m. ET), for massive blood loss.
Clark County Fire spokesman Bob Leinbach said Horn was talking at the time emergency workers arrived, but had trouble breathing.
He was immediately transported to University Medical Center, where he underwent emergency surgery. The hospital would not release his condition.
Horn, who was born in Nordenham, Germany, just turned 59 Thursday. Combining magic with tiger stunts, the duo has performed on the Las Vegas strip for nearly 30 years.
The tiger is currently in quarantine and no one else was injured in the attack, according to Mirage spokesman Alan Feldman.
Hmmm...pretty ironic that the thing which made their career could end it. Maybe that's what you get for taking beautiful wild animals and trying to tame them or destroy their spirit for a show in Vegas. Not saying that he deserves it...but i know i'd be pretty pissed if i was forced to perform for those two clowns 8 times a week for 44 weeks of the year.
didnt one of the white ones maul the other inside of the habitat at the mirage a while back? much to the horror of everyone watching? supposedly the hotel was throwing money and rooms around in exchange for cameras. i dont feel like looking up if this is true or not.
hooray for sigfried and roy. boo to them getting eaten. double hooray for their imax movie which is a must-see.
No, but i watch the news a lot. For the record i do hope that Roy lives and can recover or at least die without too much discomfort. You can definately tell that those dudes love those tigers, but sometimes the wild beast just can't or shouldn't be tamed.

Firstly, they rotate their animals. Secondly their facility is quite frankly, the best in the world. As good or better in fact than any zoo you've ever been to.
You can object to the fundamental notion of captive animals, and you can crticize the ancillary effects of their popularizing white tigers. To imply however, that their animals are in any way mistreated is simply ridiculous.

Fair enough...i don't think that they mistreat their animals intentionally. But a being given everything it needs in life--food, shelter, etc--is still just a prisoner as long as it doesn't have its freedom. It could be argued that simply by keeping animals in captivity they are being mistreated.
I can believe that Siegfried and Roy truly do love and try to give everything they can to thir tigers. But really, how comfortable can a Siberian Tiger be in the Desert of Los Vegas? How comfortable can an animal be that is given only a few acres of land in captivity (if that) when in the wild it would have hundreds of acres? How content can an animal be when it's performing circus routines instead of chasing down a deer in the wild?
I mean you can love something and stil mistreat it be it intentionally or not.
You can argue that an animal doesn't have the intellect to be dissatisfied, but many animals rely upon instinct to do what they do in the wild and it doesn't take a whole lot of neurons firing i think to let an animal know that captivity isn't the state they are supposed to be in.
Well, if these tigers weren't in Vegas, they'd most likely be poached so that some crazy chinese guy can have a tiger penis to prolong his life or make his dick harder or something.
yeah but did anybody get pictures or video of this happening, because i could pee myself laughing as he got jumped and draged away, the tiger probly only let go because it didn't like the taste of make up, shit like this makes me laugh
it's about time one of these fucks got gnawed on. that shit is dope. alot of good the fukin' whip does ya when the 300 pound bitch is on top of you chewing on neck meat. now i'm going to laugh 4 two minutes straight. chew chew chew.mmmmmmmm.
Hey, remember that episode of The Simpsons where Gunther and Hans were performing at Mr. Burns' casino, and they got mauled by their tiger Anastasia? That was a good episode.
Yah, this sucks. I feel bad for him. The way I understand it, theres no real way to dosmesticate Tigers or great cats. I hope he's okay, and hopefully the tiger won't be put down or something. I sincerely doubt that, given the nature of hte beast, but who knows what the animal control laws are in vegas.
To me this just seems like a numbers game. I mean, they've been doing this since 1959 in different parts of the world. Am I the only one suprised that with that many times working with a tiger it's eventually going to come after you?
Secondary theory: the tiger had gotten tired of the fast-paced world of Vegas showbusiness, had become addicted to drugs and cheap hookers, and was desperate for a way out.
Big cats CAN be domesticated. Just read up on Joy Adamson and her work with lions and lionesses in East Africa. Only difference was, these cats weren't in cages. Adamson lived pretty much in the savannah with them (if I remember correctly, she adopted two adorable lionesses).
That said, I'm surprised it's taken these tigers so long. Hell, if I had to perform almost every night within even a small time window for a bunch of fawning, half - drunken, wide - eyed tourists, rehashing the same crap day and day over, it really wouldn't take me much time for me to lose my s*** completely.
Siegfried and Roy should have seen this coming. No sympathies there, I'm sorry.
