War Declared on Scientology

An internet group calling itself "Anonymous" has declared war on Scientology.

Despite the fact that "Anonymous" seems to have spawned from the intellectually filthy cesspools of 4chan, I am fascinated by their methods and mission, especially their declaration that their anger is reserved for the heads of the "church" and that their goal is to make the rank-and-file members of scientology question their beliefs.

If there is even the slightest chance that it has anything to do with 4chan I hope they all burn in hell.

I'm thinking it will just end up turning the general public a bit further against people who frequent message boards on the internet. They'll probably embarrass Scientologists, but really I can't see this having much, if any lasting effect on them.

That's the short answer. The long one is the homophobia, stupidity, racism, pedophilic imagery and general scum that fills much of 4chan is acidic to most people.

I get the impression, although I don't know, that they are extremely homophobic. Why? I have no idea and can't really figure out a reason. I'm also the last person to know these types of things. I just heard about 4chan during the Vtech shootings 'cause of horrible shit that was being said there about it.

I'm tempted to make a Stephen Hawking joke, but I'm too tired.

I don't know anything about 4chan either. So, for that part I'll go "huh?"

I get the impression that they do those things purely for shock value. They have a burning need to be line-crossers.

I am quite impressed with whoever is writing the bulk of the serious text on that site. They know what they're doing.

Also, the word "lulz" makes me wretch.

Although I consider Scientology more of an intellectually dishonest morally bankrupt group of either assholes or needy easily-manipulated weak-minded seekers than I consider Scientology an "enemy."

I despise the leadership and the twisted pop psychology, and feel sorry for the fools who are taken in by the promises, but "enemy" is a pretty strong word.

They are legion, from what I hear.

I find this post on Slashdot from someone who has deep knowledge of scientology explains really well the indoctrination that a Scientologist receives... especially when you read the following post by a former Jehova's Witness.
