Pro-Taliban rebels in northwest Pakistan have captured two military outposts in the past week.

They struck first at Sararogha in South Waziristan.

Some 1000 armed Taliban launched [an] attack at Sararogha fort at about 1:15 am on night between Tuesday and Wednesday from nearby mountains with heavy and automatic weapons and killed up to 30 soldiers, BBC reported and sources in Political administration South Waziristan told Online.

Then last night the Taliban claimed to have also captured an outpost at Sipla Toi.

Pakistani troops have abandoned a fort in a remote tribal area, a day after another was overrun by pro-Taleban militants, officials and witnesses say.

They say that paramilitary personnel at Sipla Toi military post in South Waziristan left their positions fearing an attack by the militants.

The Pakistani Army denies the desertions, however, and there are are no reports of combat taking place in the latter action.

While fundamentalist militants gain ground in the Tribal Areas (and Afghanistan), Musharraf's surviving secular rivals have demanded his resignation and a full international investigation of his chief rival's recent exercise in not surviving.

At we can take heart that the propaganda of "European Countries Media" is concocted regarding the safety of Pakistan's nuclear weapons and the responsibility of its strategic forces.

Surge was in Iraq, not Afghanistan (and certainly not in Pakistan, where the US has no troops).

And while it's just now ending, because there was no real political progress (or even initiative) accompanying it, violence in Iraq does look like it might make a comeback.

sarcasm dude, sarcasm
when told the news Bush replied, "Yeah so the "surge" is working"
or not
Increasing violence in Afghanistan along with record opium crops, increasing violence in Pakistan, increasing violence in N. Iraq
it seems all the surge accomplished was to move the violence to other parts of the area
oh and the 3000 additional marines going to Afghanistan is "incouriging?" news yes.

Oh, it will end. But the world will be forever changed. There will be new countries, there will be many small wars . . . hopefully China, India, and/or Russia won't try to snip off a bit of the area or it will turn into a large-scale world war.

Even better, hopefully we can pull ourselves out of the fire there.

The fact that you still have ANY faith gives me faith.
Well, maybe not.

It's hopeless.

It is terrifying frankly. And who was ridiculed for saying we need to go into Pakistan if we have knowledge of where the Taleban or Al-quaeda operatives are?

what are we gonna do daddy??? frown
