'I still can't believe it,' Luby's cafeteria worker says of bequest

BROWNSVILLE, Texas - For nearly seven years Melina Salazar did her best to put on a smile and tend to the every need of her most loyal and cantankerous customer.

She made sure his food was as hot as he wanted, even if it meant he burned his mouth. And she smiled through his demands and curses. The 89-year-old Walter "Buck" Swords obviously appreciated it, leaving the waitress $50,000 and a 2000 Buick when he died.

It's cool for her.
But does it mean he had no one else to leave it to?

That's what I'm thinking, but it still makes me feel better about humanity when all you hear about is a bunch of crap.

Well maybe the reason she couldn't believe it was he was an asshole cursing at her and making her reheat the food and whatever else.

My faith in humanity is growing dimmer by the day.

Apparently we're on two totally separate pages. Yeah, the man was mean, but apparently it's because he had nobody in his life except for a random waitress whom he gave a freakin' lot of money to. Think about it, he could have given it to anyone, but he gave it to the waitress who put up with his shit. I dunno.

True. At least he gave it to somebody could use it.
Though he could have bought a newer car closer to dying. wink
