Thanks for the good news . I just found out that my nephew is shipping over to Iraq for MP duty in about a month . He'll be close to Kuwait , so hopefully he'll come back in one piece . And he's already told everyone that this is his last tour . I just wish we could end this nonsense & get on with making this world a better place for everyone to live in .

Prime example of why fast-food junk media is so popular.

For those of us who remember the Viet Nam era, it's deja vu all over again. We're told that we've "turned the corner."

From which direction?

This is what Bush means by turning a corner

From the first one:

The commander of U.S. forces in northern Iraq, Major-General Mark Hertling, said last week that al Qaeda was regrouping in northern Iraq after being pushed out of Baghdad and western Anbar province and was still capable of launching "spectacular attacks."

One such "turning of the corner" that I recall:

December 23, 1967 - Upon arrival at Cam Ranh Bay in Vietnam, President Johnson declares "... all the challenges have been met. The enemy is not beaten, but he knows that he has met his master in the field".

January 31, 1968 - The turning point of the war occurs as 84,000 Viet Cong guerrillas aided by NVA troops launch the Tet Offensive attacking a hundred cities and towns throughout South Vietnam.

Hmm numbers lookin good to me. Oh and from experience working with veterans, who say it themselves that Iraq isn't bad as the civilian world makes it out to be. When we win this war, the world WILL be a better place. I'll be heading to Iraq in 5 months, and will do a damn good job in ensuring that.

I wish you the best of luck sir, and I respect the job you're doing.

I am however a bit confused by your words. What exactly does "win this war" mean? When will we know that we've won?

If it's anything like gulf war 1, it means we will be there for the next 20 years
