Indeed. But we live in a country with American bases dotted all over it. Mostly they are disguised under convenient fictions like "RAF" Lakenheath, "RAF" Mildenhall and so on. Somehow, I can't see the US allowing Britain the same sort of privileges.
Britain has traditionally been buddy buddy with us on things like this.
For instance, the NSA is prohibited from intercepting American phonecalls, and GCHQ (British NSA) is prohibited from intercepting British phone calls. So what they do is they intercept each other's phone calls and trade data
Britain usually is ok with it because for the most part, these things benefit (the people in charge of the government of) Britain as well.
Britain is usually OK with it because we still believe ( = we're spoonfed by Australian-American newspaper magnates) we're somehow equal partners with America; all that "special relationship" stuff. You know, that "oh we all speak English, they can't possibly mean anything that would do us harm" stuff.
It is somewhat difficult to store captives in my flat, I'm on the 6th floor and there's bugger all room as it is. I'll be fucked if I'm sharing my toilet with some poor kidnapped dude.
