Ok, you guys. I'm packing up all my stuff and getting ready to scramble tomorrow morning.Isabel is creeping closer and closer to Virginia Beach. The Navy has already told all the sailors who aren't on duty to bounce. North Carolina has already started to evacuate, and I hear it's already a ten hour wait on the highway. I grew up in Colorado and New England, so I don't know to much about hurricane evacuation. Today I get to pack up all the stuff in the front of the store and move it to the back, then go home and board up the house.

Virginia Beach has never had a hurricane like this in recorded history (says the local cats on the radio). It's supposed to be class four to class five, that's pretty severe. Even if it slowed down to a class three it would still have winds of about 100 mph.

My store is about five miles from the beach, and my house is closer than 1000 feet. Wish me luck gang as I backup my accounting software and hope to god I still have a store and a home at the beginning of next week.

Damn, I haven't heard anything about evacuation yet. I hope I'm just not paying attention or anything. Its not supposed to hit till like late night Thursday or early Friday. I am pretty much considering us fucked, but thats the way it goes. I have to stay here for school and work the rest of the week so I couldn't leave if I wanted to frown

As I remember it, crack the window then tape them. more water damage, less popping of windows due to sudden air pressure changes. but I bet you dollars to donuts you can find a complete rundown of prodcedures on the net.

we just tape them without cracking them. the tape holds the window together incase they shatter. cracking them ahead of time just gives you more of a headache. ESPECIALLY is the storm dosent hit.. then all your windows are broken

i live right on the NC coast, and i'm not going FUCKING ANYWHERE.

i might take some of my stuff to a safer location (computer, books, musical instruments, etc.) but my ass is staying right here at home.

gonna tape the windows and whatnot, got water, got candles, got batteries.

oh, i think it was "leave the windows open a crack" as opposed to "crack the windows with a hammer"

Having survived Andrew I can say one thing...tape on the windows (or even boards) did absolutely nothing. All that was left of thousands of foundations surrounded by rubble...and the corpses of people who refused to leave.
