As you read this, a Canadian comedy troupe is playing a days-long marathon session of one of the worst video games ever conceived of, and they're doing it for the children.
I assume you've all heard of Child's Play, the charity founded by the Penny Arcade boys to purchase toys and video games for children's hospitals. Yeah, it rocks. The members of LoadingReadyRun.com have taken it upon themselves to play "Desert Bus", a horrendous, never-officially-released mini-game from a never-released Penn and Teller Sega CD game. This is as bad and as obscure as games come, and they will keep playing it as long as the donations keep rolling in. The money will go straight to Child's Play.
The goal of the game is to drive Penn and Teller's tour bus from Point A to point B, an eight hour ordeal played in REAL TIME, the reward for which is ONE POINT in the game.
The group's original goal was $5,000, and they've already blasted through that in the first day. Good news for the kids! The bad news for LRR: as of this writing they are currently expected to play the game for the next 90 hours, minimum. These are people of great mental fortitude.
The site comes complete with video feeds of the terrible, terrible game, and it's amazing, committed, increasingly tortured players. Go check out the awesomeness here: http://desertbus.org/
