And someone's already on trial for breaking the law.

It's the first trial of its kind. A man is facing a judge and jury for violating Orlando's ban on feeding the homeless. Eric Montanez, 22, was caught feeding a group in Lake Eola Park earlier this year. The prosecution told Eyewitness News their case rests on video taken of Montanez feeding the homeless, breaking Orlando's feeding ban.

I'm constantly reminded why I left that godforsaken state.

Why or how did that become a law in the first place?

Tuns out, most people hate the stinky homeless. And the stinky hippies that feed them.

The Orlando politicians must want the homeless to feel unwelcome. So they can walk over to the next town and starve there.

Along with the feeding laws. Orlando has panhandling zones. You must be inside the designated box to panhandle legally.

Luckily some good things exist here to keep me sane, because otherwise I'd probably go on a giant Yelling Spree and start kicking all the idiots.

This reminds me of the episode of the Daily Show where they provide a map to show that the nation's stupidity all drains into, and is held, in Florida. When John Stewart suggests we just kick Florida out of the Union, the reporter becomes agitated and yells "My God, John; don't you know what they would do!? All of the stupidity would flow into the Gulf of Mexico! It would be an ecological DISASTER!" biggrin

I think there's a pun in there somewhere.

Most likely, yes; I always pun. Even unintentionally smile

How about this:

"Now there's ONE glass of Florida orange juice, even the Religious right wouldn't be able to stomach." biggrin

For that matter, there's one glass of florida orange juice you better not give to homeless person; or we'll fuckin ARREST you! biggrin biggrin

Ok, I suck. I'm stopping this now.

Not Guilty

In the first test of Orlando's controversial ban on feeding groups in public parks, a jury Tuesday found 22 year-old Eric Montanez not guilty of the misdemeanor charge against him.

After the verdict, Orange County Judge Steve Jewett praised Montanez for the "important" volunteer work he does feeding the homeless at Lake Eola Park, but cautioned: "you do have to obey the law."

Montanez said he was relieved to have the trial - stemming from his April arrest - behind him, but immediately planned to continue with a three-day "ladle-fest" feeding the homeless.

Two words: jury nullification.

Our Mayor here in Houston has "asked" everyone to stop giving to people on the streets. He say's "we have agencies that could properly distribute money for these people"

#1 He just does'nt want to see them on the streets. He say's it makes our city look bad.

#2 Although we do have some really good shelters, many don't go to them for a host of reasons.

There might not be room, which is often the number 1 reason. If your married and in need, they do not allow you to sleep in the same room...matter of fact the buildings are miles apart from each other. You have to also prove you are legally married, but still cannot sleep in the same room. Go figure.

Most just want some food and do not want to go through the system to get it. Some just need a drink and have no problem staying under a bridge. Others just want a cig.

When I first saw the commercial from our Mayor, I thought "mother fucker". You who have the power to take all of these 75 story condemed buildings and take one, just ONE and fix it up with tax money and house them, feed them and put them to work. A handful of us 7 years ago wrote him a detailed plan that would work, if given a chance. He even had contractors willing to do this. He has had many other options, but to put millions in a commercial asking me not to feed my brother or sister?

These people....man we do not know what happened to them. We don't know their story. We judge them everyday. We sit at our red light and look away. Fucking look in their eyes Mayor. We have so many more problems than this but you trash the weakest of our city.

I will not stop feeding them. I will not stop giving them money if I choose to. Mayor Bob White thinks if we stop giving, they will go away.

No they won't. They have no where else to go.

There is a verse in the bible that say's "don't forget to entertain strangers, for you might be entertaining angels unaware."

Look them in the eyes, you might see one.

"These people" as our mayor like to call them, very well could have the strongest of angels around them....or they could be angels. We are being watched either way by G-d. He see's the ones who care. He see's the ones who give without ANY recognition. They are not the ones with a position of playing fat cats and cheats either.

This disgust me to the core.
