"Alaska citizens have a right to possess less than four ounces of marijuana in their home for personal use," Appeals Judge David Stewart said. State prosecutors could retry Noy for possession of a greater quantity, Stewart said.

"It's a tremendous victory for civil liberties and personal privacy rights," said Howard Scaman of the pro-marijuana group STRAIGHT. "This could be the bellwether case for the rest of the country."

The article. It's a few days old but I haven't seen anything about it on the boards so I thought I'd let everyone know just how awesome Alaska is.

that rules, though it could be argued that there is fuck all else to do during a six month winter blackout so the same rules couldn't apply outside alaska smile but still, very cool and will hopefully pave the way.

This is great, so not only do they nearly pay you to live in Alaska, you can smoke weed legally there too? Alright!! I
wonder if whoever set the limit at 4 ounces knew just how far that would go?

Not likely this would happen in any other state. Before 1990, it was perfectly legal to own 4 ounces of pot in your house and smoke it if you were 18 or older. Our drug awareness lectures in school would tell us "No smoking grass until you're an adult!" Couldn't buy, sell, grow, or transport dope. But in the privacy of your own house, it was legal.

That is because the Alaska state constitution has a strong privacy clause that most other states lack. Then in 1989, some old bitch moved up here and didn't like the freedom we had, so she started a ballot initiative to outlaw dope. And she won mad

Ever since then, there's been all sorts of ballot initiatives for medical marijuana and straight-out legalization. The med. marijuana ballot passed, but the full legalization thing never has.

Alaska has a lot of good things going for it like legal weed, free money and being able to carry a concealed gun on you without a permit biggrin

alaska does, and hopefully always will, rock...

I've had a longstanding deal with myself that if my life ever collapses on itself to enough of a degree, I'm just gonna save up enough for gas and take a trip on the alaska highway.

You know, the only commerical spaceport in the US not under the direct control of NASA or the USAF is on Kodiak Island. The state sounds better all the time smile.

I'm watching a special on that right now and amazingly enough they built that modern marvel in only 8 months! It took a full month to repave 4 miles of a local park here in the 'Burgh. That's pretty screwed up if you aske me.

great, people in this country already spend too much of their time ignoring the outside world and now they can get pot legally too. I could give two shits if you smoke pot or not, but at least when it was illegal you had to actually put some effort into it. lazy bastards.

Actually it's still illegal to buy pot so you still have to put some effort into buying it and getting it into your house. Once it's there then you're good to go.

if you've drove it, you know why... the AlCan is atrocious in a large portion of it. beautiful drive, shitty road.

it's actually recommended to make the drive during the winter when the road is snowed & iced over enough to make it smooth.

the hiking & roadtrips into the interior were nice, miss those... but unless that's all you plan on doing, you're gonna need pot to keep from going crazy there.

but then, i'm the type of person that needs to able to drive to another place within 1 day. anything less makes me climb the walls after a year or two.

beautiful snowstorms though....

It's definately still illegal to grow it. Although when I lived there you could grow it if you had a medical license. I don't know if the law has changed since then.
