Okay, so have you all heard of Norman Hsu?

Norman Hsu, has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Democratic candidates since 2003, and was slated to be co-host next month for a Clinton gala featuring the entertainer Quincy Jones.

The event would not have been unusual for Mr. Hsu, a businessman from Hong Kong who moves in circles of power and influence, serving on the board of a university in New York and helping to bankroll Democratic campaigns.

Well turns out that.....

But what was not widely known was that Mr. Hsu, who is in the apparel business in New York, has been considered a fugitive since he failed to show up in a San Mateo County courtroom about 15 years ago to be sentenced for his role in a scheme to defraud investors, according to the California attorney general's office.

Hsu pleaded no contest in 1991 to a felony count of grand theft, admitting he'd defrauded investors of $1 million in a bogus investment scam. Prosecutors say he was facing up to three years in prison when he skipped town before being sentenced.

Federal Election Commission records show Hsu donated $260,000 to the Democratic Party and candidates since 2004.

AND

Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu failed to appear Wednesday for a bail hearing and a judge issued a new warrant for his arrest.
Hsu forfeits the $2 million bail he posted last week.

Hsu's lawyer said he doesn't know where his client is.

What I wanna know is why this type of blatant fraud isn't tearing the Clinton campaign apart? Remember Abramoff? Wasn't that a scandal? Why yes. Yes, it was. And yet here, we have another scandal...only this time it's Hillary. If this had been Bush or Cheney what do you wanna bet that heads wouldn't have rolled?

And again. Somebody already did this thread, genius.

And how is Norman Hsu even in the same league of criminality as Ken Lay, let alone Jack Abramoff?

Man, your crusade is stupid.

First off, I would like to read a series of science fiction novels set in the savage alternate universe that would nominate an Al Gore/Dick Cheney Presidential ticket.

Second, Jack Abramoff was a corrupt lobbyist who bribed people in Congress. Norman Hsu is a fugitive who donated a whopping $23K to the Clinton campaign. There's a wee bit of a difference between the two in terms of influence.

Since the Clinton campaign has already said they're going to give all the money Hsu donated to their campaign to charity, and it looks like Hsu is going to be sent to jail once they catch him, and this story is being mentioned pretty much everywhere in the mainstream media, what exactly do you think should be done?

Man, even if we shrink our perspective to the point that a molehill becomes a mountain, these potatoes would be mighty small. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to go tend to my teacup: I stirred too fast, and it's a real tempest in there.

Jeebus man, unruffle your panties and focus on the facts:
-Firstly, what "blatant fraud" is supposed to be tearing apart the campaign? Is there some act of fraud associated with the campaign?
-How does this compare to Abramoff exactly?
-How do you resolve the "fugitive" issue that is 15 years old and involves a highly visible public figure living in New York City? I'll wager that this was in fact part of a bankruptcy settlement where sentencing was a formality with no consequence.

But keep trotting out the "they did it too" argument to bolster your support for the party made famous for an unprecedented number of resignations under duress.

Once again for those totally ignorant of public events:

Jack Abramoff was convicted of bribing public officials, and defrauding his lobbying clients of at least 21 million dollars as well as other counts of tax evasion fraud and conspiracy. His co-defendants were a dozen public and former public officials as well as a sitting congressman.

Hsu plead no contest to wholesale rubber glove fraud a decade and a half ago.

Not quite the same thing.

Once again: This guy is a donor, not an active politician, correct? There is no corruption. HE is perhaps a criminal, but that's not the responsibility of the politicians, it's the responsibility of Hsu and the cops.

Also, can you clarify the title? What the hell do you mean by Gore/Cheney? Is that some sort of slip?

I think he means Bush/Cheney. But W's policies do seem to produce a lot of gore, so I guess it's understandable.

I suppose if it were shown that Hsu exerted influence over Clinton or were bribing people, I would be concerned, but as long as he was just some guy donating to the Democrats who turned out to be a criminal, I don't see an issue. They caught the dude, and it's all overwith. Unless there's some part I'm not understanding.
