Burma is going through a rough patch. By "rough patch" I mean they have one of the most fucked up governments on the face of the Earth. In 1962, the military staged a coup and took control of the country. In 1990, the opposition won an election, but has never been allowed to take power. Opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Aung San Suu Kyi, has spent nearly every year since under house arrest. Her detention was recently extended another year.



Meanwhile, since 1990, the people of Burma have experienced the joy of torture, murder, torture, rape, detention without trial, massive forced relocations, and forced labor. Good fucking times.



And now Burma is experiencing a severe gas crisis.

People are protesting in the streets and the government has responded with the usual violence.

Thankfully, Jim Carrey has stepped forward in what is either a sincere message or another pathetic attempt to win an Oscar. Either way, it is fucking weird.







It is a great message; I just don't want to hear it from Jim Carrey. First of all, cut the long hair, Greystoke. Secondly, I can't take anything he says seriously. NOTHING. As much as he wants to be taken seriously and hopefully win a meaningless acting statue, he is the world's biggest clown. I think I can sum up why I don't want Jim Carrey to deliver messages about human rights violations with one simple video.







I would actually prefer to hear about the imprisonment of Aung San Suu Kyi from Jim's ass. But the video is popular, having been viewed over 135,000 in two days on YouTube. Still, his sincerity freaks me out.



I wish somebody else were delivering the message, like Rambo. Rambo is going to kick the shit out of the Burmese military in Rambo IV.







Now that is a fucking message! Hopefully it does not turn out like Rambo III, when he helped some guys who turned out to be al-Qaeda in Afghanistan.

Holy God, the preview for John Rambo is bloodier than all of the first three Rambo's put together.

FTR, remind me to get yr approval on all acting projects that come my way so that if I become successful, people who can't differentiate between characters from actors will still respect me.

i liked the first part of the story but i think it got off topic in the second half

yeah, pretty accurate depiction of someone getting hit by a .50 cal machine gun at point blank range, it's really messy.

and yeah, I'm glad that Jim Carrey is trying to help, but it just seems really weird hearing that message from him.

Sly Stallone made Rocky Balboa an awkward movie because he made Rocky a big dumb religious zealot, and now he's make John Rambo an insane movie by making Rambo a big dumb religious zealot/guy who kills lots of people.

What they ought to have done is eliminate Carrey's face entirely...I think by now he has a recognizable enough voice to sound sincere...it's his face being sincere that so hard to get used to.

So...did Rambo just rip that guy's throat apart with his bare hands? I'm not versed in the rambo story so I wasn't aware this was one of his moves...

First, John Rambo looks fuckin awesome!

Second, why is it that whenever there is a meaningfull video about world issues the person speaking is always positioned slightly offcenter? Its annoying and pompous. I actually think it'd be a better video if they had Carrey in the costume for the Mask and then give that message. Then at the end, he yells smokin...

So, if you have a sense of humor, you're not supposed to give messages about humanity?

A Jim Carrey speech, a Rambo film, or an article on Suicide Girls: they all seem equally unlikely conduits for a message which raises the issue of human rights abuses in Burma.

Which is the least trashy? I'd probably go with the Carrey speech.

Sadly enough, my biggest focus was on the John Rambo trailer, also. Seems there has been needless torture in foreign countries since damn near the beginning of all life. There's the Rebecca Sommer film about the Hmong's present genocide in Laos. There's Anne Geddes forcing children into baby fruit costumes. There's too just too much torture all around us.

I'm confused, who is the new Rambo movie supposed to appeal to? That was scary.

As for Jim Carrey delivering the message; I can understand it being weird to some people considering who he is. Personally, it didn't bother me at all. I liked the fact that he is making an attempt to get people involved in a very serious struggle.

It is absolutely ridiculous that a Sylvester Stallone movie and Jim Carrey are being utilized to show people that there is a struggle in Burma and that perhaps we should be doing something about it.
