Did you know that al Qaeda is in Iraq? Its true. That is whom we are fighting in Iraq. This month, anyway. Remember when we were going after those WMDs? Then we were liberating an oppressed people from a horrible dictator. Then we were training the Iraqi army to bring stability to the country. After that we were setting up Democracy. Now we are stopping al Qaeda.

We know that because Bush brought up al Qaeda 95 times in his 29-minute speech today. He said Iraq over a hundred times. If our president says something that many times, it must be true.

Now a fresh intelligence estimate warns that the United States is in a heightened threat environment, mainly from al-Qaida. The terror group is seizing upon its affiliate, al-Qaida in Iraq, to recruit members and organize attacks, the report found.

Wow. Scary shit. I guess we have to stay there, right? Fight those fuckers to the end. But what is the end? All you need is a basic, third grade understanding of math to see a bit of a problem. Or maybe it's logic. Or maybe it's mathgic.

Year 2003 zero al Qaeda in Iraq.
Year 2007 many al Qaeda in Iraq.

Its like an infection. Seems like if we stay there, eventually Iraq will just start calling itself al Qaeda.

Either way, you'd have to be a fucking moron not to see that we have created a serious problem that will bite us in the ass. Everybody ready for blowback? It took ten years for the blowback from the first Iraq War, and that one was just a couple of months. Just think how terrible it will be after four years of destruction.

It is also very strange how the insurgents suddenly disappeared in Iraq. You dont hear that name much anymore. You also dont hear much about Shiites or Sunnis. Theyre all gone. It happened about one month ago, when the military just started calling everyone they killed, al Qaeda. Who is going to say theyre wrong? The dead guys? Journalists who are cowering in the Green Zone? And oddly enough, its a new talking point for the President. Surprise! Unfortunately for him, nobody gives a shit what he says anymore.

I thought we already defeated al-Qaeda in Iraq. Oh well. I guess the President defeated them so well the first time he's going to do it again.

Did you know that al Qaeda is in Iraq? It's true. That is whom we are fighting in Iraq. This month, anyway. Remember when we were going after those WMDs? Then we were liberating an oppressed people from a horrible dictator. Then we were training the Iraqi army to bring stability to the country. After that we were setting up Democracy. Now we are stopping al Qaeda.

We know that because Bush brought up al Qaeda 95 times in his 29-minute speech today. He said Iraq over a hundred times. If our president says something that many times, it must be true.

I personally think that al Qaeda al Qaeda should be al Qaeda al Qaeda Iraq, mostly because al Qaeda Iraq al Qaeda. And if you don't like that, al Qaeda Iraq al Qaeda.

PERHAPS MOST IMPORTANT TO KNOW IS THAT AL-QAEDA IS A NAME COINED BY THE BUSH ADMIN.
IT DOESN'T REALLY EVEN MEAN ANYTHING IN ARABIC.
SO IN EFFECT THEY DON'T EVEN EXIST.

And on a personal note: my family get shit because before me they were all born in Iraq on my father's side, yet my Grandfather received the MBE (Member of the British Empire) for his services to Britain. It's all bollocks and the system is fucked.

It means "the base," as I've always heard it, and it's a real enough organization - if a handful of wild-eyed reactionary yahoos living in caves in Kaffiristan can be called an organization.

From the Wiki:

Osama bin Laden explained the origin of the term in a videotaped interview with al Jazeera journalist Tayseer Alouni in October 2001:

"The name 'al-Qaeda' was established a long time ago by mere chance. The late Abu Ebeida El-Banashiri established the training camps for our mujahedeen against Russia's terrorism. We used to call the training camp al-Qaeda. The name stayed."

And the confusion over spelling just derives from irregularities in transliterating Arabic (which is what I was getting at up there). Arabic's three vowels (six, if you count the long and short ones as separate), have a lot more phonetic drift than English's dozen or so.
