I'm lost

JUL 13, 2007 01:31 AM

Late in 2006, some asshole in Arlen Specter's office slipped an unnoticed provision into the Patriot Act. It allowed US Attorney positions to be filled without confirmation by the Senate. Then, the Attorney General fired nine US Attorneys. In most cases the firings seemed to be politically motivated.

The US Attorneys were either involved in the prosecution of Republican politicians, like Duke Cunningham in San Diego, or the US Attorneys refused to open unwarrented investigations into Democratic politicians. In every case there is evidence of partisan bullshit on the part of Republicans. Clear evidence has yet to be discovered due to stonewalling by employees of the Department of Justice, who have provided contradictory testimony to Congress. At this point you’d have to be an idiot not to see the truth. Both Republican and Democratic Congressmen have called for Attorney General Gonzalez to resign.

Until now, the Department of Justice has always been nonpartisan, but the White House made sure to wipe out years of history and totally undermine the rule of law in our country. As soon as Bush took over, the rules were changed. Suddenly the main qualification for being hired became party affiliation and religion - which is actually illegal under Federal Law. Crazy religious Regent University Law School, which was started by Pat Robertson, has had over 150 alumni hired since Bush took office. The school is both a joke and a turd at the same time. And now it’s graduates have infiltrated our justices system. It will take years to root them out.

Oh, but the fun doesn’t stop with the Justice Department. The nearly 300 judges Bush has appointed are spreading their fucked up version of the law across our country. The Bush judges can only be described one way: Activists. Yes, the very word Bush uses to condemn judges. Bush’s definition of “activist judges” only means they make decisions that favor gays. It's a great way to scare the shit out of his Christian base. In reality, Bush’s actual activist judges are helping big business to rape our country like it is a new, soft, pretty 18-year-old cell mate.

They are willing to sacrifice the conservative ideal of states’ rights if it means limiting environmental protection, and they are willing to abandon the conservative principle of limited government if it means shoring up the so-called unitary executive. They do have an agenda, but it is not the agenda of the Christian right. It is the agenda of George Bush.

For years the American Bar Association would vet judicial nominees, but as soon as Bush took office that old tradition was out the window. Why keep something that works? Now judges get a look-over from the Federalist Society, a group of right wing nut jobs. (The society was started by Dan Quayle's old speechwriter, so it has to be pretty retarded) And before Bush, it was also a tradition that the Senators could veto nominees that would serve their state. Not anymore! Fuck the locals! State rights can suck Laura Bush’s cock.

The results are fantastic.

9.6 percent of Bush’s district-court appointments hailed from large law, which tend to represent large corporations. That proportion was 2 percent under Jimmy Carter and 6.6 percent under Bill Clinton.

A third of Bush’s nominees to appellate courts and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims during his first term had previously worked as lawyers or lobbyists for the oil, gas, and energy industries.

In National Environmental Policy Act lawsuits at the district-court level, pro-environment plaintiffs won 46 percent of the time before all judges, but they prevailed only 17 percent of the time before Bush appointees.

Yay! Fuck the environment! Thank God these assholes will be around for years to come. And that’s not all they are up to.

A 2006 study by People for the American Way found Bush-appointed judges spearheading efforts to limit the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act, restrict the application of the Family and Medical Leave Act, and limit access to the courts for wronged plaintiffs.

Yay! Fuck Civil Rights and voting and medical leave and wronged plaintiffs. They are all lame.

The nice thing about the US Attorneys is that the next president can fire them the second he takes over. But not the judges. These 300 judges, as well as the new idiots on the Supreme Court, are going to be around for a long time. It is going to be like a slow rape.

I was discussing the firings yesterday, and the entire Libby fiasco, and just the general "I'll do what I want and you can kiss the snotty end of my rebel dick" attitude of the current admin, and I just kept thinking about kids and magic markers.

You have a 3 year old who is covered in black magic marker. So is the cat, the walls, and your new sofa. You know the little brat did it. But what does the kid say when you ask him about it? "I didn't do it. I didn't do anything wrong"

It is that childish insistence on being right, on not admitting fault of any type, even under mountains of evidence, that really fucking pisses me off.

Watching Bush give his press conference yesterday nearly made my head explode. He smiles after he says everything, no matter what topic he is discussing. Those little smiles drive me insane. I want to know what secret little thoughts he keeps having to make him grin like that. I'm sure it is something along the lines of 'Uhhuhuhhhh I'm fuckin' all y'all in the ass and y'all can't do shit about it. Uhuuhhuuhhhhh'

Sorry for the rant, I'm just so sick of it all.

bash bush. keep it up folks. It's all the left has been good for in the last 8 years. I agree that the Justice Department shouldn't have fired the 9 attorneys....it should have followed the Clinton model and fired all of them and started fresh at the beginning of the administration.

As far as Bush ruining our courts? I think that activist judges have had far worse consequences to our country by legislating from the bench.

And on another note.....am I the only one who thinks that Nancy Pelosi looks like Skeletor (from that horrible movie)?

I really don't get how someone with such a fundamental lack of reading comprehension can actually manage to take the necessary steps to sign up for this site and actually make an even somewhat-legible post (abundant errors aside) on these boards.

Not to stop you from trotting out the irrelevant "Clinton did it too! Waaah!" response that conservatives use for, well, just about fucking everything, you do know that Clinton didn't actually fire all of the US Attorneys that G.H.W. Bush appointed, right? I'll give you a cookie if you can name the one that he kept on. Go!

Oh, and the issue isn't that Bush and Gonzo fired some attorneys, it's how and why they fired them.

Please define what an "activist judge" is. For bonus points, describe how Bush has never appointed an "activist judge", and describe how "judicial activism" has been a consistently bad idea.

The thing that drives me nuts is the idea the Bush appointees are not "judical activities." Strict constructionism is simply conservative judicial activism.

Same shit, different spin.

I wonder how many times a country can be raped before the number doesn't matter anymore...

...Yeah, that's all I came up with when reading this, except that I'm firmly entrenched with PillowPant on the 3yo analogy. It's just another thing that's been frelled between the buttocks since Bush took over.

What amazes me is that you think that people have to be brainwashed by the 'left' to realize how corrupt the 'right' is.

Some of us have actually followed the series of events, and made up our own minds about what is going on.

The only 'sheeple' out there are the ones that will swallow anything if spoon fed to them by the media enough, whether it be from right or left wing sources.

Please, instead of using a talking point from 4 years ago, cite one example. That shouldn't be hard. Just one. We'll wait.

You mean the evil people who want to supress gay rights, women's rights, religious freedoms and destroy your country by forcing you into a continued effort to "bring democracy" to the people who go to the wrong churches?

Yes, because if Reverend Al Sharpton and Reverend Jesse Jackson and the concept of "liberation theology" have taught us nothing, it's that the Religious Right represents all Christians.

There was nothing to "comeback" to, holmes. What facts have been twisted? When did anyone say the right is "evil?" No one is interested in your uninformed take on People For the American Way based on a couple of minutes on their website. Say something interesting or fuck off, plz, kthx.

So totally true it bears repeating.

I don't know why i bother reading these, or the news, or anything that has to do with the current administration. All i do is get angrier and want to start stabbing people. Especially the blind idiots who continue to try and defend the fuckheads in power.

The level of corruption is so ridiculous that i'm almost beyond the point of caring. As things are i'm kinda scraping by (nothing better go wrong) and so i'm in no position to do anything about it except talk to people which does precious little. Maybe in a couple of months i'll be abler to take some vacation time and actually join a real protest. If there is one. Hasn't been one of these (that actually made any kind of difference) in a long time, methinks.
